My Little Pony: A Christmas Story (Hasbro UK, 1986) (Pic heavy)

 It's nearly Christmas, and I've been wanting to share this for a while with the community.

This story comes from 1986. It came with chocolate selection box by confectionary company Cadburys, which I had for Christmas 1986 when I was 4 years old.

Amazingly, I still have these pieces from that set (even though we moved a lot between 1986 and 1988 and I lost other things, like stickers).

This is one of my treasures and I hope you guys like it too. (It is old so is in less than perfect condition, and I have no scanner, so apologies for any slight issues)

I also have two cutouts from the back of the selection box. I don't remember if there were ever any others.These are the only two I have. They used to be stuck on my cabinet with bluetack, because they were both ponies I owned.

I don't remember ever having any other pony selection boxes and I'd love to know if anyone else remembers this one too

I don't remember seeing this back in the 80s, I'm sure I would have saved the pretty artwork if I had ever received it - Snowflake's cut-out looks so pretty!

Oh darn, that story is just so adorable! And it just so happens to feature several of my favourite ponies: Baby Tiddly Winks, Gusty and even Snowflake! The world needs more Snowflake

I don't have any pony Christmas merch, but I've seen pictures of the G1 Christmas cards and they were seriously cute!

Thanks all! Glad you enjoyed it! I am literally amazed that it survived so many moves in my childhood and so many years as I was so young when I had it and I never kept backcards at that age. I guess it made an impression on me. I have a vague recollection of the box being white and mostly purple, and if you look you can see what might be an illustration of a fudge bar or something in Snowflake's tail? They also have slits in the bottom and I think they were meant to stand up so you could play the story with them. I feel like there should have been others as well but I literally can't remember if there were. These are the only 2 I remember.

Snowflake was a good candidate for Pony Christmas xD. I have some nice merch with her on from childhood, actually - the club wall frieze has her on it, and a shoebox from roughly around that time (1987?). I also have a really rusty bike with her on it (yeah, bad carbootsale purchase ><). I think she works well in artwork because her colours are so distinctive

Also found this image featuring some cards which must've been from my first year at school or thereabouts. I do remember these being sold as a set of cards. I have two of the Powder one I think, two people sent it to me the same year xD. I don't have any of the others. I am sure there were four or five designs in the box though. I may have had some to send to friends since the ones I still have were sent to me but because I remember the box I must have had them myself at some point as well...

Yes, Hasbro again promoting those ponies we didn't get here -.-. Let's just spam Powder everywhere...

They are also both dated 1986. I think I started school in November 1986 or thereabouts so I may have had them that year or they may have been out again the next year.

I've got an advent calendar with Flutter ponies on and a Christmas card from the early 90s with Baby Nightsong and Snowdrop on the front. Currently away for the next few days but when  I get back I can scan the card in.

You're welcome! These are the kinds of little things that generally don't survive. I often wonder if we all pooled our odd bits and pieces of stuff we saved from childhood or picked up second hand, what we'd come up with in terms of global merchandise. I would really love if someone had been prescient enough to save the whole box instead of just the cutouts I have, in case there were other ponies pictured. Though these do seem the main characters...

Thank you so much for uploading this, what a delightful Christmas story. I love the artwork, they are so pretty. I really like that snowflake plays a part in the story, she’s one of my favourites. I really wish more companies that teamed with hasbro in the 80s had released stuff for the 35th anniversary. A Cadbury’s G1 pony selection box would be perfect for Christmas Day this year hehe.
