"Natural" Colours on a Pony
« on: November 03, 2018, 05:40:21 PM »
What do you think about ponies who are less... Technicolor? I know a lot of people are open to it, but let's get down to the nitty-gritty. Why? Or why not?

Rainbow-coloured ponies are always my favourite regardless, but I don't see why Hasbro is adamant about doing anything outside of pink. There's a lot of different things you can do with these colours! I'd love to see a grey pony with rainbow hair, a black and gold pony, or an obligatory neapolitan pony! Even things like a pure white pony are rare, but still very nice. :)

On the other hand, it could get boring fast if the designers aren't creative. I never found Doctor Hooves or Octavia to be particularly interesting. At least Octavia has purple eyes going for her.

At that point my ideal "natural pony" would be half and half, a natural coat with colourful hair. If a pony is purely natural, it would have to have a nice theme/symbol to tie it all together.

I'm okay with it, depending on how its done. But generally, I want my realistisc toy horsies realistic, and my fantasy horsies rainbow colored. Gray and black are fine.

I actually like natural color ponies! Dont get my wrong, I love rainbow, totally unnatural ponies (That is the main idea of My Littles Ponies after all) but brown/white/grey ponies just have something so common and cute that got me.

My pony sona is a brown and white pony. I think that the thing is play with their marks and hairstyles to make them unique since yeah, a just "brown pony" is boring, like you said.

Im still totally 100/100 with natural color ponies with some touch of colors on their manes! Like a brown pony white blue strikes, or some white pony with cute pink hair (Like Sundance)

I'd be scared that going all natural would make MLP just like most other horse lines. I like MLP for the bright colors...I know you can do some really nice things with natural colors, but I'd love to keep technicolor for the most part.
I think keeping natural colors to the body would let ponies still feel MLP, but would be really neat to see!

I would love pure black bodies, but not enthused about grey or brown. (Snuzzle is cute but she's enough.)

I think it would be fun to see new colors of hair and bodies. I love Macau Jenny, so I would love to see a brown pony.

The thing is... some natural colors can be very... unappealing when put on a toy. Some shades of brown actually look quite... awful, while black is hard to do without it turning to grey... MLP sadly doesn't have 'shading' on the toys while some horse models do and which can play a role in how the colors look.

Seeing as how natural horse colours is what Bonnie Zacherle intended MLP to be when she came up with the toy idea, it would be great to see some made like this.   The line probably wouldn't have gone so far with just real horse colours but it would be great to see some real horse colours produced.

The only ones I can think of are Princess Tiffany and ones like Macau Jenny but that's certainly not a wide release pony.

natural colours are nice - a nice recent example of a natural coloured pony with a colourful mane&tail is the g4 blindbag cherry spices, she's brown with pink/red hair ^^ though sadly she was never made into a brushable as is the fate of many of the blindbags

More colours = more variety. Hasbro should really open itself to use colours that are not pastel or "girly"

Agreed! I think natural colors would be nice to add more variety into the line. The Kirin in g4 were a nice example! Most of them had all earthly tones and it was so nice to see something different!
