Clocks go back an hour
« on: October 27, 2018, 01:13:03 AM »
Just a reminder that the clocks go back an hour at 22:00.

Morocco doesn't need to do this because it has been scraped there.

Thanks for the reminder ! :D
Actually, the European Union is ending the hour shift in the next couple of years. What a relief, I've never been comfortable with the whole concept. It boggles my mind. :what:

I panicked for a hot second.

The USA doesn't change the clocks until the first Sunday in November.

I need to remember to do this else I will be on campus way too early on Tuesday :)

There has been discussion about scrapping it here too, but the problem is that if you scrap the change, you end up with kids in Scotland getting run over in the dark mornings because it's a lot darker up there first thing and in the past when they tried to change it, that's what happened - more accidents in Scotland particularly because of dark mornings. I hate the clocks going back, it puts my brain into hibernation. But what I hate more I think is the slow disappearance of daylight more than the clock change. I am fine with that if it means fewer people get hit by cars...

I am glad my phone and computer change it automaticly, no need for a hiccup waking up wondering what the time is, especially before a workshift.

The only thing that gets me is having to adjust my medication schedule, also I was afraid I'd somehow missed switching my clocks. Brain fart.

So annoying that yesterday in the staff room the clocks had not been changed, so it felt so much like I was late for my afternoon classes even thoughh I wasn't. They'd managed to change them in other places, so why not there?

That said, the clock in my 4pm class room was totally confused and had stopped midway through the hour. Which meant I had to rely on my phone to keep class time, which is not very professional and makes it look like I'm checking my phone every so often rather than teaching the class.

University, get your clocks sorted out o.o

It's a pain when I play Yo Kai Watch and a red Orge says I'm fooling with the DS console when it's not my fault I have to changed the time on the console, it scares me.

Having a 4am job, the hour being set back was amazing. It meant a much needed hour of sleep was added!

I don't know what I'm going to do for Spring forward. That will be absolutely dreadful.

My bedroom clock at my parents' house has had some kind of breakdown since the clocks changed. When I came home it was an hour fast, as it hadn't been changed. Then it stopped for a few hours and started again on its own. From Saturday till last night it was out of sync but then suddenly and weirdly at 9 o clock last night it started to work normally. This morning when I woke up it had stopped at half past 5 and that is what it still says. I need to replace it, but actually watching it invent its own time zones is quite amusing...

(It isn't a battery change problem. It has some issues)

That's what reflectors are for! :) I never really understood why they aren't used a lot in other countries. Then again, it has taken quite a lot of campaigning to get people to wear them in Finland, too. But it's the same as with safety belts and bicycle helmets, apparently people just don't care about their safety? I can understand how darkness would be a bad combo with the narrow Scottish roads, especially as the speed limits in Britain are quite high compared to those in Finland.

I'm not a fan of this shifting either, I'm happy if the EU actually decides to get rid of it. I don't even care that much whether we opt for the normal time or DST as long as we don't have to change twice a year. In Finland it will be dark for most of the day, for most of the year, anyway!
