I've never actually tried this, but I always wondered if it would be doable to just buy a plush toy and "skin" it, reusing the fur as a coat for a (super so soft) pony. If the hair is too long, you could use a beard trimmer to shorten it?It could be cheaper than buying actual fur and going through the process of dying it. Good luck with it, keep us informed!

Good luck with it, keep us informed!Considering how small the individual pieces of fur are on most plushies, it would only be viable for something the size of a g1 pony or smaller.
