Questions for those in London...
« on: October 04, 2018, 01:10:26 PM »
My SIL is going to London for her job and I'm considering asking her to pick me up a 2DS and a copy of Pokemon X or Y (so I can cheat and get lots of the various Vivillon forms for trading to my nieces and nephews).

My question is this:  How much is a 2DS (I'm leaning towards asking her to get the new Purple/silver one) and how much is a copy of Pokemon X/Y?  And also, where should I tell her to look for the game/console?

You can get either from Amazon UK or other online stores probably for a cheaper price than in retail stores...

There are a lot of stores that stock something like this, whether through their online stores or in actual stores on the high street. Stores like Game and GameStation (if that still exists, I haven't seen one in London) specialise but other places like Argos, and even supermarkets like Tesco can stock them.

Sample prices from Argos's website suggest around £80 for a basic console and £135 for a 2DS XL. That is without specifying a colour.

Same really applies for the games although you can probably get cheaper on exchanged second hand games at stores like CEX.

I have seen copies of those games in CEX before, and I think I picked up a spare copy of X a while back from one of them. They also have consoles I think. The only negative of those is that if she got one second hand and there was a problem with it, you wouldn't be able to exchange it.

I haven't bought anything since my 3ds years ago but I don't think it matters whether in London or not, most of the stores and availability are nationwide and would deliver to a UK address anywhere.

Some stores also sell refurbished consoles via ebay at a discount.

Amazon UK suggests a price of around £32.99 for a new copy of X, though there are some other options which vary.

Does any of that help you?

Most UK and European consoles also don't now come with chargers. I honestly don't know if the US charger would be compatible - I would say yes but I remember there are different voltages between the UK and some other places, so worth checking out first.

Thank you.  Good point about the charger.  My SIL works for a company that rents flats in London but she works in the Utah office (they have an office in London and one in Utah-totally random) so they send her over every other year or so to make sure she's up to date on local attractions and such.  If I sent her to Argos or CEX would they have the charge cords as well?  Do they have a USB charge cord or one that I would need to buy an adapter for?

Argos might. Amazon probably does but obviously you have to make sure it's a reputable seller. Otherwise a PC store like PC World or an electronics store would probably have something. PC World might also have the console as well, thinking about it. There are a lot of those in London, even in the centre.

It's a plug adapter and it isn't USB (well, I am guessing, I don't have a 2DS, I have a 3DS) and it would come with a 3 pin plug for the mains, so you would need an adapter between UK and US plug format - but I would check first to see if anyone else knows whether a device bought here would be compatible with the US charger. I genuinely don't know the answer to that question, so it's worth finding out for sure.
