I couldn't find the wires for my scanner so I bought a new one!
Gusty and Feathermay are trying to lift up Autumn Skye but she isn't like it too much lol.

I honestly cannot draw ponies sitting down, I had a fun time googling poses
Gusty can hardly been seen!

That's a good thing you drew her sitting down, it's perfect for practice then to have given up on it.
I LOVE what you did to Autumn Skye's hair, I wish I would have drawn her hair like that, it's so her.

I really can't draw pony legs so I've made it my mission to practice over and over till I get the hang of it, drawing them in different positions and in different generation styles. Why must legs be so painful to draw
I kinda got lazy with Autumn Skye's hair, usually I'd draw it piece by piece like the G3 style but the ipad was dying and I hadn't saved my work    I kinda made it messy as I thought wind swept hair would be suitable for her

Gosh, I have no words for how amazing this is. I love the whole setting and how expressive your ponies are. Also love the fact that the facial expressions aren't "pretty". That's precicely the reason you're able to put so much feeling into your artwork. Great job!

I'm loving all of these, Gusty is my favourite pony and the other two are great as well, I'm enjoying this thread very much!

@Light: I love your style! Plus it's so nice to see a polished pencil sketch. Digital art is great too, of course, and it's not the medium that makes an artist, but there is just something real and down-to-earth about simple pencil work and it's becoming so rare to see, except on actual art sites. I love the dynamics in the picture and the fact that you incorporated some elements from each generation style (like the ears) while maintaining a coherent overall style.

@StrawberrySundance: Your "group photo" is super cute, too! You did a great job adding some generation-specific flavour and I really like Autumn Skye's flowing mane.

My best advice for pony legs (or getting down any pose, really) is to study some basic horse anatomy. While MLP are simplified compared to real horses (and some gens like G4 completely defy the laws of anatomy, lol!), it will help you draw more natural looking poses if you know what joints real horses have, which way they bend, and how the legs are positioned when they stand / rear / lie down etc. The sitting pose is particularly difficult to draw because horses cannot actually sit. Here it may be helpful to look at pictures of horses getting up from the ground after they've been rolling, or to go hybrid and incorporate elements of dog anatomy, for example. The movement of the hind legs is different: horses can move their legs backward and forward, but any inward/outward movement is restricted. They can't "spread" their legs so that their knees are pointing outwards, like dogs can - and presumably My Little Ponies too, considering the various poses we draw them in. So it's definitely okay to take some liberties, these are cartoon animals after all! But sometimes it helps to look at how things work in real life, before deciding what rules to break to generate an expressive stylised/cartoon version. Hope this helps!

That is great advice Griffin I've looked at horse anatomy references before, but only to make my MLPs look more horse like. I'll have to try it with legs and poses since I've avoided sitting and laying poses for a long time

I've actually spent my afternoon looking at horse anatomy both MLP and real  I've done a few sketches revolving around Feathermay and Gusty and I'm going to do some more later to get myself familiar with the anatomy. I was actually thinking about using my dog as a model the other day lol.

I actually based Gusty's pose off an actual horse but gave it more of a cartoonish flair  since that's what I'm comfortable with.

Feathermay is actually my favourite of the two. I looked at both real horse and G4 refs for her, giving her a smaller body and bigger hooves to make her look cute haha.
