Why does Paypal want documents?

I've had my Paypal account since 2010 and it's remained largely unchanged, maybe a new phone number or to update expiry dates on cards. Anyway, for whatever reason they're wanting to confirm my identity by either sending a photo of my ID or something with my name and SSN on it. I know they already have access to my bank and all but I'm feeling a little uncomfortable about this. Why now after all this time?

Did anyone have to do this? What happens if I ignore it?

Sounds like a scam to me. Probably someone wanting to steal your identity. Best ignore it.

Yikes, did they request via email? Definitely sounds like a scam.

It's a notification on the account itself.

Calling is a good idea.
