How do Brush 'n Grow mechanisms work?

I feel like I've seen an extensive post or maybe Youtube video about this, but now I can't find it.  I'm not trying to fix one, I'm just curious.  :lol:

It has a mechanism inside the neck, so it winds the tail up around a barrel inside.
