Two years ago today. After 25 years of struggle, I finally was able to afford this blessed harp named Grover.

I tried to give my best smile when I took this photo. I have dentures so it was a little difficult for me to get the best smile in the photo from far away. But I did smile my best and that's all that matters to me.

Congratulations! It's always quite amazing to get that one instrument you really want! Kind of reminds me of the bassoon and I. Except I didn't wait anywhere near long enough to get mine, and... I switched instruments nearly ten years later to oboe. Life happened, that's all I can say.

The harp is a beautiful instrument that I admittedly know close to nothing about. I hate to admit, even talking about the differences between the harp and lyre in music history was a bit confusing to me (which is rather silly, because I have such an extensive knowledge of early wind instruments). I didn't know about different types of harps.

I listened to your performance of "Catherine Martin" by O'Carolan and it is amazing and I love it. As an appreciator of early music, it sounded rather early to me, and I was surprised to find out it was actually a Baroque Irish composer who composed. Music history classes don't tend to talk about Irish composers. I am certainly interested now after hearing your beautiful performance of that beautiful piece!

Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738) was the last of the great Irish Harpers. He composed over 200 known pieces. Much of what he composed is in honor of all of the patrons who invited, listened, and supported his great cause. He was blind due to smallpox he was stricken with when he was 17 years old. He survived and ultimately rose to become a touring harper. With a harp, guide and a horse in hand, O'Carolan traveled all over Ireland performing and composing the most unforgettable pieces for a lot of people. He was so popular that it is said that no weddings, funerals, or any other kind of celebrations would start until O'Carolan arrives.

O'Carolan died in 1738, but His music is still being played and enjoyed to this very day. To know more about this famous harper, check out this website here.
