Yellowed playset -> Peroxide/Baking Soda bath ?
« on: September 07, 2018, 10:29:50 AM »
Hey everyone !
I'm currently having fun dismantling and cleaning my newly purchased second-hand G3 Twinkle Twirl's Dance Studio (I'll be documenting it like I did for the Twist and Style Petal Parlor !). It has some issue though, its front  side yellowed a bit so everything is dull and orange-ish. I'm wondering if anyone ever tried to soak it in a peroxide or a baking soda bath under the sun for a couple of hours until it has gotten better colors ?

If not, well, I'll be the first doing it and I'll tell your the result for future help.  I don't have much to loose with it, I know it's not the only one I'll ever come across. I'm hoping it will improve it rather than yellowing it even more.

Beep! Although it may lighten the original color of the plastic, this method was testing on different sorts of plastic, like Transformers style, which may be more similar to that playset.

It looks like baking soda is used more often to just clean surface dirt and remove grime, not neccessarily brighten and yellow.
Maybe someone has gotten success with plastic and baking soda, but I can't find anything that points to de-yellowing.

I have also heard of people using perixiod toner (the kind you use on hair, it has a creamy texture so you can spread it) to lighten playsets. They just put a thin layer on and put it in the sun

I did this once on a Lullaby Nursery roof and it worked - it went back pink.
