advice in avoiding acrylic paint bleed?

Hi there. Does anyone have any experience in red pigmented paint that does not bleed over time?
I have several customs that I made for myself where the pigment from reds, pinks, and some purples have bled out into the plastic in the ponies and now they are ruined.
I am hesitant to paint some of my customs now that need pink cutie marks. Sigh.

What brand of acrylic are you using?

You could spray the pony with a sealant first and then paint to stop the paint leaching into the plastic and spreading.

I don’t do customs but I do paint - hopefully someone with actual axpeeience of customs can shed some light on this!

Sometimes I will paint the area in black first and then go over it with red.  I've had the red bleed into white paint before which is why I use a black undercoat.  I do know that if you use mod podge to seal the paint the red paint bleeds into the mod podge, so definitely don't use that.

Not just mod podge, my brand of sealant likes to suck bleeding red pigment towards it too. I'd be interested to know if there are any sealants that lock it down good, or work better with certain paint brands. Thanks for the tip on using a black base coat, I'll have to remember that!

I wish you could buy the actual paint they use to paint ponies with, because they have minimal bleed through. My persona pony is disgusting now. She looks like she got spanked hard, her bum is so red. And her symbols, they have faded almost completely to white.

I'm sorry your ponysona hasn't aged well. I've had some customs ruined by red paint bleeding, perhaps some professional customizers will have advice on how to restore and prevent red pigment leaking.

Have you considered using Water Color Pencils instead? I know most doll customizers use them for face-ups. As far as red I really have not used that color yet (because I really haven't needed to) but I do know how much of a pain red is... I cleaned off a symbol fix-up that was on a Mimic years ago and yeah it bled >.o

If you mean latex paint, it doesn't bond well with pony plastic. It stays tacky and is easily peeled off.

edit: although if you used a primer like maybe Kilz it might work?

I haven't had a problem with bleed though yet, I usually sketch out my design first in pencil then cover in a thin watered down layer of white then any colour once its dried
