Brown Baby Moondancer - What to do?
« on: August 07, 2018, 06:51:37 AM »
I received a Baby Moondancer today from ebay, that was surprisingly brown. I couldn't quite tell from photos, I thought she was just a little yellow  >_< She's in good condition other than being brown, with some dark splotches here and there (pic 2)

She is about the same color on the inside, and there's no mold or tail rust. What should be the course of action? Bleach, Oxyclean, sunfading? I don't mind dumping her in oxyclean, she doesn't have too much glitter left on her symbols anyway. I might try that and see how she looks tomorrow.

I think she is prone to sunburn so that's why she is brown, but I'm not too sure since her insides are browned too. Did she burn that badly all the way up to the core, is that possible ? '-'

It does kinda look like sunburn, but I didn't know Baby Moondancer burns. I thought she just kinda turned yellow, like Moondancer and Glory. I was thinking of sunfading her to whiten her up, but I'll see what everyone thinks first :O

I've never heard of her sun burning, but her color looks similar to a burnt Gingerbread. I guess she could have the same deal as Starshine, but I've never heard of her burning though, and I know quite a few people have sun faded her. She may have had rust but someone cleaned her? Rust can stain like that and it would explain how she is that color on the inside. I don't know if OxiClean will help much. I think your best course of action is to try sunfading.

I don't think she's been cleaned out, her neck seal was mostly glued until I pulled it all off. She's currently soaking in oxiclean, I might decide to sunfade her tomorrow.

Mine is brown-ish too.  And its definitely not from sunburn, because I just sunbleached her and she got ever so slightly whiter.  I can't figure it out.

Tell her to wear sunscreen next time she goes to the beach. Ponies and their suntans!
Hopefully the oxiclean has some effect on her. Sunfading might give her a little boost.

I noticed both her and the Baby Firefly that came with her had the slightest tinge of smoke smell... I'm not even sure if that it's cigarette smoke (it's not really stinky) but that might be a reason. The Baby Firefly is perfectly okay though, no discoloration whatsoever.
She has shown a slight improvement after soaking for 2 hours in hot oxyclean solution, I'm going to let her soak overnight and see how she turns out.

You can try peroxide bath + sun fading as well. Might really brighten her up!

If they are from a home were someone smokes that can explain why she is brown.

Would that cause her to get brown on the inside though?

I'm going for this next :) Gonna have to wait for a nice sunny day!

Totally can be from cigarette smoke exposure.

But hey she almost looks like a Baby Snuzzle!

Yes, When we cleaned the apartment to my greatgrandparents that smoked their whole life we had to replase some of the walls due to the tobaco was so deep in the walls and we found some old 70/80s vinyl toys that clearly was not dark brown. I am pretty sure my fathers aunt and uncle is going to have a hard time selling that two apartment house due to the 80+ years of smoking.
