Show and/or tell me about your Bedtime Newbons!
« on: August 05, 2018, 04:35:44 AM »
I never was that interested in the later G1 releases. As a child, my favorites were always the releases of the first couple of years and I never really liked the gimmicky later releases with bright colors. The last ponies I remember I thought were AWESOME were the Windy Wings. On the other hand I used to think Fancy Pants babies were taking it too far away from the originals

Coming back to collecting as an adult I sought out the first years of G1, and never checked out the releases after 1990 much. Trying to find advertisements on the first couple of years of MLP I stumbled upon an ad from 1993 (from a Norwegian Donald Duck comic from March 1993). It’s actually the first time I found any excitement of the later G1 releases- because there those adorable Bedtime Newborn were featured! I never knew they were releases in Norway, but obviously they were :)

So, what can you guys tell me about these cuties? And do you have any pictures? I especially like the little blue one with stars and pink hair :inlove:
She is not in the ad,though

That is such a sweet story, and my kind of birthday present  I got my first pony at the age of three too(CP Bowtie), but I have no recollection of that at all!

I remember I picked her up and before we could get to the cashier I was almost out of the store cause I wanted to show dad who was outside the store what I was going to buy.

I'm pretty sure they were fairly standard release across Europe in around 1992-3. I also think they were the set that had an interesting Easter release in Australia but someone from there will need to confirm :D

My sister and I had all of this set between us from new. We actually had the pegasus (Moondream) each, for some reason, and then I had the pink one (Sunset) and my sister had the blue one (Stargaze). There was a big toy store in our area for a few years that sold ponies at a slightly cheaper price than most stores so we bought a lot there back then...mostly baby ponies.

I remember we bought Sunset & Stargaze and then went to some cafe because I have this recollection of us opening them and playing with them on the table. Still have their bottles as well :)

I think a lot of the later ponies actually go back to that 'simple' image of the earlier years. For example, the Seven Characters (aka MLP Tales ponies) are very basic really - solid body colour, solid hair colour and simple single symbol. Okay, there are still weird things from then too, but somehow a lot of them seem less elaborate than some of the ones in the middle, like the Secret Surprise or Pocket ponies.

Exactly! I never really forgave Hasbro for doing all the gimmicky ponies- it was mainly what drove me away from ponies and on to other toys such as Sylvanians, Lady Lovely Locks and Keypers. Oh well, maybe I should have stayed on a little longer because some of the latest releases really are sweet ;)

When I took the photo I forgot that Baby Yo-Yo wasn't part of the set, but I can't be bothered re-taking it  :P  Couldn't find my Baby Stargaze, must be buried deeper in storage somewhere
