The curse of moving!
« on: July 28, 2018, 07:44:03 PM »
I've recently discovered that I've suffered the moving curse of losing items from my collection. I had to move all my possessions in several car loads, all orchestrated personally by myself with some family help, and yet somehow things I swore I put in my car have vanished. I unloaded and set up the collection gradually here so it took some time for me to realise, but I can't find them here and they're not at my parents... They've just vanished!

Thankfully no ponies were lost in the move. So far just two posters and a signed framed sketch. But it's still so upsetting and confusing. :(

AUGH  I feel your pain.  I am still broken-hearted over losing one of my favorite anime t-shirts when I moved from the dorms in college back to my mom's.  I suspect that it was stolen in the laundry room but honestly, I have no idea... I just know that after we finished the move several states away, I didn't have it anymore.

Augh! It’s like the same demons that steal socks from the dryer! Looks like they have cousins that affect people moving...I hope you find the missing stuff soon!

This never happened to me, even with a lot of moving
But that's a common case, and still, if you've not unpacked everything, there's a hope it will show up.

Search everything, even what doesn't make sense. Any tub that is in storage, every box, even if you think you've looked before.

After one of our moves I couldn't find something...when we moved the next time, there it was. Packed into the our travel cooler.

Oh! I hate that stoff gets lost like that! I’m still sad about some stuff we lost moving from my childhood home. I’m planning a move within the next 6 months and it makes me super anxious thinking about loosing stuff like that again!

I really hope you find it, and that it is just misplaced somehow :hugs:

This always worries me. I'm moving university accommodation at the end of next month and I have evacuated most of my pony residents back home so they can't get mixed up in it. But I have a shelf of various things from Japanese plush to pony to Monster High which I take with me from place to place, and I am going to try and make sure I take that to the new place in person, because I don't trust the removal people not to lose them in transit :(

I hope that the things you are missing turn up. I am certain that my Mountain Boy stickers got lost in the 2 moves my family did in late 1987-early 1988 because of Dad's job, and I still miss them now :/

I agree completely, search everything but slowly. Since it sounds like you moved yourself (in other words no moving companies) the items are possibly still around somewhere. My husband and I have moved twice in the last ten years and for some things we were slow to unpack (collections, etc). For us, things that we noticed missing have turned up in the most unlikely boxes. I have also found that searching through things in a hurry usually does not produce the item just frustration even though I could have sworn I put it in a very specific box. Just let your parents know what items are missing and hopefully they will show up somewhere.

I've got some good news, the posters turned up back at my parents' house.
Unfortunately still no idea where the framed signed sketch has vanished to. My memory is terrible, I could have sworn I packed it but it might be at my parents' as well... but then they've been using my old room as storage/spare room, I had hoped it would have been found with the posters but no luck.

Sad to know that the moving curse has struck so many collectors as well. :(
