Visiting the Austin Toy Museum's MLP display
« on: July 22, 2018, 09:06:16 AM »
I drove to Austin on Saturday to see their new MLP display and to make some donations.  :D

https://youtu.be/hADuN3aLdJ4

It's a fairly small space right now but apparently they have only been in existence for 2 years.  They are non-profit and do except donations.

In fact, I'll put this out there for anyone who might be considering donating:  He was a little disappointed when I pointed out that his original 6 where the 2007  Anniversary ponies.  Also, the Dream Castle is a little beat up, is missing the short side, and some pieces are broken on the hinges side with the tower.  I'm going to try to keep an eye out for replacements but if anyone one else is feeling generous and would like to donate, it would be greatly appreciated.  :)

At least he's makiing the effort. It's so awesome that museums are starting to recognise pony stuff.

The best exhibition here was the temporary one by Wondermint in Dudley which was only there for a few months but was really very good.

There's a UK Cherries Jubilee in the Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green in London, too, but that's about it. I don't know about any other place in the UK right now displaying ponies as a museum exhibit (though the store in Camden does quite a good job of displaying the ones they're selling in a glass case).

I did see a sparkle Sky Rocket in the Turku castle museum in Finland in 2011. I wonder if anyone knows if she's still there?? Any Finnish people paid it a visit recently?

Aw. I wish I woulda known about this place when I was getting rid of a few ponies from my childhood herd. A toy museum would of been a great place to donate!

It's so great that they have made such an effort! I recently went to the Toy Museum in Cape Town and the man who runs it:

1. Had never heard of My Little Ponies
2. Was not at all interested in finding out more about them
3. Asked me if I had made Salty myself

Was MLP not as widely popular in SA as it was in the US and probably Europe? 10 years ago I got excited cuz my male science teacher recognized my g1 mlp Tshirt.

So glad you got to check it out! I was in town when they were setting it up, but I couldn’t stop by to help rearrange it. Next time I’m in Austin,
I will bring a pony to donate.  :-)

Almost everyone remembers having them: they were really popular. It was just this guy; pity that he was the one running the museum.

Awesome!  I've dug through my collection and found doubles of Cotton Candy and FF Butterscotch that I think I'm going to mail when I get a chance.
