Plus-Size Bra Buying [UK advice needed!]
« on: July 05, 2018, 03:17:51 PM »
So, I've never had a properly fitting bra, and I have no idea what size I am. I have tried to be professionally fitted twice, and both fittings were absolute disasters (either by someone with no idea what they are doing, or fitting me with a bra designed for a woman without 5-10cm of fat on her ribs  ).

I need advice! How do I go about properly finding a bra? I am plus-size, and by that, I mean I am OBESE. Not curvy, not a little on the sides, properly obese. How on earth do I size correctly? How do I make sure it sits correctly? What on earth do I do?

Hmmm.
Is there a store in the UK that is like City Chic who have professionals who deal with curvy women?
I use them all the time and they are fabulous!

There are two plus size stores in the UK; Bon Marché and Evans. My problem with both is the fact that they are mostly staffed by non-plus sized women. And I'm sorry, but I'd rather have a plus-sized woman try to help with bras. I can help myself with anything else, but bras I'd need actual help with

I've found this site to be a useful starting point:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ABraThatFits/

Also wanna add. All women of every shape and size run into poor fitting bra issues. :/ So TBH finding someone who actually knows what they are doing (and ignoring their body size) is going to get you the best fitting bra.

Don't know where in UK you are based - have you got an independent lingerie shop in a local town?
If so, you are more likely to have a sympathetic fitting with someone who knows what they are doing. OK, the prices may be a bit higher than the big chains but worth it for the help.

Marks and Spencers are not what they used to be. PoserBeachball's suggestion sounds ideal, you want the old fashioned type with a homely middle aged lady. I'm at 36E so I have to think about where I shop but I'm still within the realms of the high street. I have tried Bravissimo but think very over priced. Debenhams in Cambridge were good but think selection could be wider. Ended up in Rigby and Peller, I had to spend out because i have a manual job and was worried about my back. If you're above a g/h cup I don't know what I'd do. Probably look for bra fitting tutorial on YouTube or wiki how and try to measure myself, then buy online checking the return policy. Let us know how you get on. Marisota might do bras and maybe have a sizing guide.
