Fixing a Tiny Symbol
« on: July 02, 2018, 03:08:23 PM »
Hey, all! I have a G1 Galaxy that unfortunately has one half of her pretty symbol rubbed off. :( I have marked with a very light pencil where each star goes, but due to how small her stars are it's impossible to make them look nice and clean by freehanding it. Furthermore, I tried to use a stencil to paint the stars in, but using an exacto to cut that small is difficult. I have a couple options left, but before I go completely crazy I thought it may be best to ask you guys!

So, in your experience(s), what have you guys found is the best way to restore smaller and more complex symbols?

Thank you!

Thin layers, a very small brush, and lots of patience and possible redos.

This! And if you can't find a brush small enough, I've heard people use toothpicks, needles, and even cat whiskers to paint small details. :D I've only ever used brushes myself, though. My best ones are tiny Warhammer or Army Painter brushes for figures, I'm sure they can be found online too. You can also search for nail art brushes.

Ouch, good luck with that!

I am not the most experienced at restoration but I have just repainted Baby Fifi's symbols. Her puppies have the teeniest tiniest feet.

As aintnobuffalo said, plus: One thing that you can do in addition is to have some toothpicks handy to help touch up if you go over the lines - just scrape the paint off carefully with the tip of the toothpick while it is still wet. Make sure that you use a clean toothpick for every pass.
