They are cute- I like the 1980s clothing- but they aren't screaming '80s- nor do they look particularly special. I wouldn't go out of my way for them.

I expect there will be plenty for sale on Hasbro.com after the SDCC.

I don't think anyone thinks they are celebrating Jem with this release. I think people suggested they could have gone down that line and merged Jem and MLP for a 1980s themed release.

They already incorporated aspects of Jem into EQG and in particular Rainbow Rocks, so there is a precedent.

They snuck an easter egg of Megan in one of the Equestria Girls episodes . . . Wouldn't it be fun if they also snuck the Holograms and Misfits in there?

The best part is their names sound sufficiently like 'pony names' that they'd fit right in.

Y'know, I'm really surprised they didn't sneak one of them into the backgrounds in Rainbow Rocks. They would've fit perfectly in that film.

(Actually come to think of it, one of Photo Finish's bandmates was called "Pixel Pizzazz".. probably just a coincidence, but it's fun to think of it as a nod to Jem )

I'd have thought that Hasbro could do better than just members of the Mane Six. We got all those lovely art ponies back when G3 was around but it seems that with FiM, the creativity just isn't really there anymore. Maybe one day they'll get that back.

I was excited to open this thread and discover the new ones... but although they are cute... it's nothing that I will be purchasing. A bit boring tbh. I agree with many of you, G3 art ponies were the real deal!

I don't really like the G3 art ponies, but I think that everyone is right, they showed creativity and an attempt to do something special for the brand, rather than something that looks a lot like what's already in shops and overpriced on shelves (at least here).

No offense to anyone who likes these but I think this is Hasbro being as cheap as possible. So not even the SDCC Twilight's mouth is colored in? And it's not even the M6 it's the popular!M6... snoregasm. Anyone could customize these as they don't even have unique poses and accs. Come on.

I love this idea.

Yeah, the G3 art ponies were awesome.  And even the year they did Mane-iac that was something new and unique.  I do feel this is a bare minimum "eh" attempt.  But, it is technically more of an attempt than last year . . . because they just plain didn't do anything last year.  I don't get Hasbro sometimes.  It's not that much time / money / effort to do a cool custom, and it really pays dividends in good feeling / good publicity with the fans.

I'll probably get something out actually. So much talk of G1 to G4 stuff, and I've got so much time!

Considering that Hasbro wants to push the show so much, I'm still surprised we don't have some sort of tie-in this year, unless we get 80's ponies in the show.
Like...the Pillars of Harmony? Luna or Celestia with swapped Cms? Daybreaker? Punk Rarity? The Mean Six? Sunburst and Starlight? The pony parents?

see, that's what I don't get, either. I don't watch/like the show but even I know there's tons of SDCC exclusives they could've done based off the show. It's weird that Mane-iac was the only one.
