Anyone know a little bit about Chinese/asian culture?

Is double happiness (囍) only for weddings / new marriages... or is it ok to put it up after 5+ years into the marriage.

(I'm moving, and I never took it down from what i had it up originally. But my husband questioned me if I should put it up in the new house).

Hmm...can’t really help you with this. Sorry. I don’t know much regarding that kind of stuff. Strange, obscure facts about japan and the culture that people would rather I forget? I got ya there. Anywhere else in Asia? Nope. But I’m sure if you put it up because you both are happy, and have double the happiness, there’s nothing wrong.

I don't think it would offend.

The Chinese slap it on all kinds of products these days so it can't possibly be limited to use only for weddings/new marriages.

We got a nice plaque with that symbol on it as a wedding present.  Then it fell off our wall and broke... interestingly enough, the couple who GAVE it to us divorced! 

I think it would be just fine to put it up on display, maybe with a wedding photo or other memorabilia.  Shrines and the like are popular in Taoist/Buddhist cultures, so I don't think you are doing the wrong thing  by keeping it around.

Could you hang it up somewhere more private,  like the bedroom? Somewhere extended family won't see it.

It's associated with marriage but don't think it is specifically limited to the day of the wedding. I am not Chinese or Asian so I can be wrong.

It's not limited to the day, since it's also for new marriages (or single women to attract love). I don't know if there's a limit in general.

If for some reason you remember to ask when you are in China, that would be amazing. I'd be very grateful! Preferably someone a little bit older? I imagine kids wouldn't care.

^_^ I know no one at the arena (or my friends) would care, I'm just worried about someone from another culture and generation.

I've never been invited to one but I have seen a few weddings at my old apartment complex. I could always tell when there was one that day because all the manholes would be covered in a red paper. I eventually asked someone why they were covered and they said it had something to do with unwanted spirits messing up the wedding or something like that.
