They were specified to *not* be sold at Walmart, even though Hasbro's normal mlp toys are sold there. Walmart tends to force companies to sell their product for very low prices to Walmart and I can totally understand Basic Fun not wanting to make less to sell more.

They were, but their site does in fact now say that they're available at Walmart. I haven't seen them there yet myself though.

Well that would be nice cause I do have a Wal Mart in my town.

It seems like 2 Targets in my area have stopped selling these? Both definitely had the first wave, one definitely had the Rainbows, but now neither location even has the shelf space for them anymore. Has anyone had this happen in their area? Were they eventually restocked? Pretty weird because they seemed like they were selling just fine.

Windy and Parasol found in my hometown in Norway to my surprise. I asked if they would take in any other retro setts but they couldn't as they did not sell well and was pricy. Which is not surprising when you live in a small valley town out in no where.
Bought the two anyways as christmas gifts to my nieces since they liked my rainbow collection.

-Edit-
I think its part of Ringo or 'Yes!' store chain (its a book+cloth+jewelry+toy mixed little store).

Wow- really? Where? I live in Oslo. Haven’t seen any here, but then again- I haven’t really been looking for them either... :P

Found Moonstone and deboxed her, hopefully, the smell dissipates. Her hair is fantastic and so silky, I'm always amazed the real G1's have lasted this long. If they're going to release more ponies, how about a separate sheet of retro stickers. I loved stickers when I was growing up and the pony ones we're my prized ones.

Did I miss something or am I just having a brain fart but did these ponies come with a poster?

The Collector Ponies do, but I don't think the Rainbows do. At least I haven't heard of them coming with one, and my Sunlight didn't have one.

The Collectors do. Sadly the Rainbows don't. I'm unsure about the Unicorns or Pegasus.

I am finding an interesting trend by which the ponies from the Collector set and Rainbow Sets that I have seen least in stores are Cotton Candy and Moonstone.

Cotton Candy is kind of self explanatory. She's pink. She was really well known here in the 80s. And Blossom would be the second hardest to find, and she's the second most well known here in the 80s, and purple, so that makes sense.

Moonstone on the other hand. I mean, she is beautiful. But she's the one that's always missing when I go to stores. Even at John Lewis the other day when they'd clearly just restocked recently 2 whole sets of Rainbows, there was no Moonstone. Only one Parasol (yay for pink!) but no Moonstone at all.

Is she the popular one in other places?

I'd say she's just popular overall. She  has a lovely color scheme, has an outer space theme that isn't just plain old stars, and is in a pleasant pose. Some pony designs are just naturally appealing regardless.

All the Rainbow ponies seem to have about the same level of popularity where I am.  No real pattern in who is left on the shelves.

Cotton Candy sells FAST, which I guess goes to show that ponies don't need a recognizable symbol to be popular, as long as they're pink.  :P

I keep saying, she's the true ancestor of Pinkie Pie :P

The Retro CC is really pretty though. She's a nice shade of pink and her hair is lovely. I can see why she grabs attention, too, as the green/blue box sets off the pink. The problem with current packaging is there's too much pink purple all over the place. If you really want to have a pink toy make an impression, don't package it in pink.

Same in my opinion actually goes for Butterscotch, as she works really nicely in the green packaging. She's also a gorgeous colour. I don't understand why she's not more popular, but meh. People are weird.

One other really odd observation about John Lewis. They have zero G4 ponies. None. Just Retros. :)
