I'm still debating ordering on of the rainbows on Amazon, it says "order now..." but I'm afraid of my order being delayed or canceled. Or then finding them in the store.

Wait, the CP ponies are on Target's website avaliable for order? Is this new?
Here's Cotton Candy

You have been able to look up all the retro ponies via the dcpi for awhile now. However, you can not buy them online from Target. Go figure.

Toyjunky: I almost feel like we're being spoiled with all the repros this yr   3 waves of ponies & 1 pony set, thats really ambitious of BF.  Credit to them to invest so much $$$. If BF picks & chooses which sets to produce, there will be some missing ponies from ppls favorite set(s) & those ppl will be really sad.  I'm feeling spoiled & little greedy bc I want all the pony sets (probably not possible ^.^)

I agree with you on us being spoiled. 19 ponies and one playset all released this year is a HUGE release for a retro product. In regards to future sets, when I said they will "pick and choose" I meant that they will produce certain sets not necessarily in year order not certain ponies from sets if that makes sense. In other words they would make say all the Twinkle Eyed Ponies from year 4 (1985-1986) not just Masquerade as a single.

Understood.  Sorry for miscommunication.  I meant by set too.  By skipping certain sets, some maybe sad...

I expect they might skip the 2nd unicorns/pegasus/earth and jump straight to the So Softs as the popular ones from those second sets (Posey, Gusty, Heartthrob, etc..) are included with the So Softs.

I think the Twinkle-Eyes and Twice As Fancy sets would be great choices.  If they do the So-Softs, I'll bet they will limit it to six ponies as that is what their shipping boxes are sized for.  Good point about Posey, Gusty, and other popular ponies being part of the So-Soft set.

Although, I do wonder if it's easy / cost effective to do "extra" stuff like the flocking or the TEs.  Even though the TEs look like they share molds with Wind Whistler, North Star, etc, they actually have different head molds, to accommodate their eyes, which are inserted separately.

At the end of the day I'll buy whatever they make, LOL.

I don't know, that's an interesting point.  Because I've been wandering why the Rainbow ponies got extras like scents and stickers but the uni/pegs went back to no stickers.  Was the glitter symbols that much more expensive?

Also, I wonder how likely they are to create even more molds.  Like, will they try to stick to releasing characters who came in the molds they have already made to cut costs?

Yeah, that's a good question!  It's not like Strawberry Shortcake where almost every doll is in the same mold and you can just switch hair colors and clothes.

I am crossing my fingers for more molds, in any case.   I hope the line sells super well.

The sticker and scent question is a good one. Maybe that also feeds into their availability issues in that it really seems like they have made enough collector ponies to fill an ocean but not so much on the Rainbows. Also in the UK at least there's a higher price point for that set, which in my view is meant to cover that manufacturing gap...but they didn't adopt that in the US, so it's a bit confusing.

Re TEs and TAFs. So this is just a Taffeta twitch, but I am really conflicted about the idea of TAFs. I mean, I really loved that set as a kid, I had three of them, but for me as a UK kid, they were "party" ponies, and half the set had different names (Strawberry Fair/Sugarberry, Lollipop/Sweet Tooth). I had the US MOC "Sugarberry" once, years back, and I ended up selling her because the details weren't right - not just the card design, but the name and the set name to what I had as a kid. I mean, I use the term TAF a lot but because it refers to more than one set it's a useful term. However, in terms of nostalgia and retro stuff, for me it would be different.

So I am not sure I want the 1st set TAF ponies, unless they'd be marketed here as Party Ponies and under the proper names for the UK, which seems unlikely. All the Princess Sparkle merchandise and stuff makes me pretty sure it wouldn't happen for this set either.

I think this also feeds into why I'm not bothered about the Parlour, since we never had a "Pretty Parlour" here anyway.

With the TE set, I hate the name Sweet Stuff, and always have, since watching the Sweet Stuff & The Treasure Hunt ep as a kid. BUT she's only one pony and she's not one I had as a kid. So I could deal with it. I wouldn't like it and I certainly wouldn't want one MIB. But for a childhood pony like Strawberry Fair I would want her MIB. And I don't want a pony with "Sugarberry" on the box, just like I didn't want one with "Sugarberry" on the card all those years back. She's my favourite from the set, so I would be kind of gutted.

Well, I found where the local Targets have these ponies.  However, they don't seem to restock that often.  I did have a chance to smell the Rainbow ponies, I'm a bit conflicted.  I live in a studio apartment and their scents are rather strong.  I'm afraid they would be discomforting to be around every minute I'm home.

Anyway, I'm thinking I'll have to order ponies I want from online.

Nice!  Is John Lewis a pretty prevalent store in the UK?

Edit:  Also, glitterball, would you mind if I used your photo on my blog?

Oh foo!

I literally lived next to a John Lewis this last week.

Now the nearest is an hour away. :(

And they're not selling them online! *wails*

Lady Moondancer John Lewis is a fairly widespread department store just unfortunately not in my area. :(
