New trailer! Ahh look how awesome Soundwave and Ravage look!

I gasped.
They look recognizable! And Soundwave is shooting Ravage out of his chest! My bar is so low I was like "holy crap! He isn't a tentacle monster?! I'm sold"

See what happens when a female writer and sensible director handle this franchise. You get female characters that are more than a set of DDs and robot characters that are humanized instead of being fartig, face-ripping edgelords.

I am sure this stupid movie is gonna make me cry. When he pet her head I was like d'awww.

So Michael Bay pretty much made his TFs the internet? :lmao: How did I not see that before?

Thing is, I'm not sure if those designs are for real though. They look so different (and much better) then the hybridized Classic/Bay designs of the other robots.

But I'll sure be glad if its real.

Of course it's real.
I guess Hasbro is looking for a soft reboot. If we are lucky future TF movies will look like this or better.

I think it's partially based on 80s nostalgia making a comeback but also the abysmal box office of the last TF movie compared to the ones that came before.

Also factoring in is the new direction Hasbro is under now. New bosses make for new content. Plus, the Bay movies have become stale after a 10 year run (it's creepy that something so objectively awful stayed for so long... but I digress). A new gen of fans wants to see a new take on the universe. Same with MLP G5 - it's the same characters but they have a different look and setting.

I am also liking the female Decepticon. She looks feminine enough but not like a sexy gynoid (that awful pretender thing from the second movie that made out with Sam and had a tentacle tail and tongue was worse to me than the humping dogs or Jetfire farting out a parachute).

What on Earth's a gynoid?

Female counterpart of an android. A robot that looks like a replica of a human.

The more I see from the trailers the more I like, and Soundwave. Shoutout to the only character I owned as a kid. Bought him used from a yard sale and he was often confused about his factions. He could often be found spying for whatever side paid him the most. :freak:

Had to make the most of not being able to afford anything else. My new aesthetic is Bee trying to get through that dog door.

That was one of the moments I knew I would cry at this movie. The adorableness is amped up to a 100%, it's a real Baymax situation. Stop being cute, Bee!

People have started calling him Adora-Bee.

Hopefully, I can make the Dec 8th showing. Audible has the junior movie novel, so far it's great and oozing with 80s references. But I can't stand the narrator if it wasn't for the fact I love the story I'd return to the book. It's just, nails on a chalkboard to me.

I don't trust these fan reviews. Bay fans call all of these movies good or at least "fun"
But I want to believe.

I saw Bumblebee last night and it was amazing!  God, it is so nice not having racist humor and sexism in a TF movie.  Weep for joy with me as I tell you that the camera presents the female main lead as a relatable human being and does not, EVER, have creepy shots of the camera panning in on her butt, etc.

Bumblebee (the character) is charming and his friendship with Charlie (the girl) feels so heartfelt and genuine.  Charlie has typical teen problems . . . and atypical other problems . . . and you just FEEL for her.  She doesn't come across as whiny or entitled, which can be difficult with teen characters.

Way less product placement than the Bay movies.  I mean, I'm sure there's some, but you don't have people popping Bud Lites all over the place.  There is a significant shot of a can of Tab on a table, which I think is meant to parody typical product placement.  :P

I haven't seen any of the Bay movies, but according to my friends who've seen all of them, the Decepticons "show more personality in this one movie than all the Bay movies put together."  They also said things like "I could tell what was GOING ON in the action scenes!" so I guess that is a change.  The action scenes were great IMO.

The film is set in 1987 and it deliberately emphasizes "THIS IS THE 80S", much like Stranger Things.  Fun for people who grew up in the 80s, and it didn't seem to bother the kids in the audience.  (I think the 80s are a mysterious, intriguing time for people who didn't grow up then.)  Also feels very much like an 80s Spielberg film, which is not surprising since the director gave an interview where he said he loves Spielberg films. :P

Spoiler
There's also a brief but action packed sequence on Cybertron that shows tons of recognizable 80s TFs fighting, and it's glorious.  Starscream looks like Starscream, not a dorito.  Soundwave is blue and shoots Ravage out of his chest.  Plus we get to see Cliffjumper, Brawn, Wheeljack and many others . . . SO GOOD.)

Speaking of kids, the kids in the audience loved it and were literally cheering at times.

The film is rated PG-13, but it's a very soft PG-13 in my opinion.  Whereas the Bay films are a very hard PG-13.  (I think they're PG-13, right?  Or are they R?)  I would feel comfortable taking an eight year old to this movie, if they were okay with seeing chase scenes and action sequences.

This was a great Transformers movie, but also just a great movie period.
