Transporting ponies
« on: June 03, 2018, 01:46:44 PM »
Hi there, guys!

Well, I'm moving, so I have to pack up all my things including ponies. Did you guys ever packed ponies for a long trip? How did you do that? I simply put all my G1s and G3s in a paper box one pony on another. I think they'll have to live in boxes for a pretty long time until I have a display place for them again. Don't each of pony need to be wrapped in something? I know one day I'll have to wash up and brush them all again, but 'till that day I want them to be stored correctly.

Thanks already for all your advises and sorry for my English =)

Had the same situation.
Well, I just put my ponies in a large cardboard box and they waited for me just fine
If you want to be sure to keep them well brushed, you can fix their mane in some kitchen paper, just choose it blank so no ink transfer could happend. But I'm pretty much against such a waste of paper.

Some mane colors, like the chartreuse on ponies such as Ribbon, have been known to stain the body of the pony itself. High humidity can increase the chances of bleeding like this happening, so it's a good idea to wrap the ponies in some sort of protection to keep them ink-free.
There's also the possibility of warping, especially for ponies wedged in odd areas. I would suggest bubble wrap if you can get enough for your ponies.
Whatever you wrap them with, make sure your ponies aren't wrapped in something with ink on it like newsprint or magazines, the ink has been known to transfer fairly easily.
Hopefully some other members have many more specific tips.

I like to wrap mine up with tissue and/or bubble wrap if possible, and if I know it's going to be humid/uncertain weather conditions, I like to toss in a couple small silica gel bags in each box. (I just keep any I get when buying other things, like shoes) I'm not sure if they help at all tbh, but it feels better that way xD then I stack them neatly on top of each other, and try not to squish anything. I'd rather pack many smaller boxes that one big one, to save the condition of the bottom layer(s) of ponies.
I've moved with mine (and had parts of my collection stores) many times, and so far nothing bad has happened :)

And like people have mentioned, don't wrap in anything that could transfer or stain :) good luck with your move ^^

Thanks for all your replies! I think the bubble wrap is a great idea. And feels like I don't have ponies which hair can paint even their own body. Thanks again!

I put my ponies in individual plastic bags in cardboard boxes when they're in storage, to prevent their manes from getting messed up and to protect them from water if the box gets wet or something.  :)

When we moved everyone just got chucked in to a large box and taped up.

Though I did get lucky not to damage any of them doing this

Well, I don't have enough plastic bags =) And they're pretty expensive.
Lucky you! =) I wish I'll get my own room too.

Good luck you can find the sandwhich baggies at the dollar store. GL with your travels. I haven't had a pony room in 8 years so I think I am due.
