Hope for Twisty Tail??
« on: May 28, 2018, 01:58:22 AM »
So this morning at the car boot sale I rescued a couple of G1 ponies. One of these is a European walking pose Twisty Tail. She needs a clean but her body erc look good. Her tail is not full length but is still longer than a normal pony tail. The problem is her mane. It has been cut to about an inch in length.

I do not know whether brush & grows can be rerooted or not but I couldn't leave her there. I gues my question is whether she has a chance of being restored somehow or if she is stuck like this now.

I am on the train atm but will try and get pics up later. I already have 2 European ones in my collection so I will be looking for a new home for thus Twisty. That brings me to my second question - does she have a hope of finding a home with this kind of flaw??

The other pony is a beat up Posey but I already know what her rehoming odds are and will probably give her to my sister for her Posey army.

Firstly congrats on your finds!

Speaking for myself I would be willing to try rescuing Twisty Tail so I am sure that other people would be in the same position. I can't be the only one who loves to restore ponies  :)

I'm sure she will find a good home.

I'd give her a chance - though I'd love to see what she looks like with a short hair cut, with a bit of hair-styling she could look fab. She should have enough hair to have a great mohican (I think the BnGs have 3 rows of hair) and she could channel the look of those ancient Classical statues of horses.

I think you can still re-home her. If hair is the only problem and for the rest she's fine, I don't people who want her will mind.

She does look a bit like that to be honest! The hair is thickly rooted and sticking right up :)

I haven't tried to clean her yet as I will probably do this at home. On closer inspection now I'm back in London she has some minor other flaws but till I get to clean her I don't know how she will ultimately look.

Will try to add some pictures in a bit.

I think an alt rehair would be neat! Someone has to have done one on a BnG, right?
Because she /is/ euro pose there is a good chance someone will want to scoop her up.

I've added some pictures now! The blackish mark on the top image has come off, I have given her a light clean and she looks a lot better now though there are one or two faded marks which I think may be there for keeps. She also has wear to the tip of one ear. The tail is at max length in the photos - so longer than a regular pony tail but not full length. Incidentally, her mechanism does work still :) The pictures were taken before I tried to do any cleaning. I was going to leave her but I was washing the other stuff so I figured I'd give her a once over too.

Of course I was going to rescue her! Although the lady originally wanted to only sell them with this huge barn and a bunch of fakies. In the end it was her husband who convinced her to sell them to me separately.

I really hope I can find her a good new home. The fact that aside the mane she is in pretty ok shape made me doubly determined to rescue her. She's clearly had many lifetimes with many children given that she was hanging out in a newish barn toy with fakies ;)

I'd totally just slick her hair forward. It's a neat cut!

Great find!  I bet she'd be perfect with a rehair.  One day maybe I'll have one of her in my collection.

Yay, she's certainly rocking that Ancient Rome statue look :)

I'm a real long-hair fan but I like her like that , it suits her pose - I'd certainly try some styling before a rehair in her case.

BnGs can be restored!  Some collectors have even been able to fix the mechanism.... I know there is a tutorial somewhere on how to do it.  I have personally not tried to repair a mechanism, but I know how to pull them apart.  I think even if the mechanism can't be repaired, it can be removed so she can be rehaired.  The head would probably have to be glued on, but that happens when the neck plug is destroyed, too.

As for rehoming her, price would be the biggest issue.  Given the challenges of removing the mechanism (and potentially destroying it, if it still works but is damaged when removed), a restorer would likely not wish to pay a lot for her.
