Replacing Dance ‘n Prance buttons?
« on: May 23, 2018, 12:39:57 AM »
I have a Dance ‘n Prance D.J. who is missing her flower button/knob... What’s left is a rusty, sharp, metal bit protruding from a gaping hole in her chest. XP Is there any way to replace the button, or at least cover up the gap in an aesthetically pleasing way? Bonus points if there’s a way to keep the mechanism functional (it still works, there’s just no way to turn it without getting rusty fingers :P).

As an alternative, is it worth having a look in a hardware store that has lots of decorative drawer knobs? They come in many shapes and sizes.
Take a note of the measurements, you can often luck out with odd little items at charity/thrift shops.

Hmm... If it's rusty, you should have a peek inside. Her body and mechanism could be all gross and rusty, and you don't want that inside a pony! Here's the preservation project page: http://www.mlppreservationproject.com/misc.html#DanceNPrance

I have no idea if it's safe to take the mechanism out and put it back in. If it's possible, you should be able to clean her after you take the mechanism out. Might want to clean it a bit as well. Hopefully you can put it back in.

It's better to clean her, but if you can't because of the mechanism, you could just clean the button area.

After that you can try to make a button out of clay?

Do you own other DnP that still have their knob? If so, I would def use one of them to create a mold out of polymer clay.
I've done this before with SHS earrings. You can make a mold, then use it to form new clay knobs. Paint them the appropriate color, then glue them on!
