Whats your favourite G1 playset? (If any)
« on: May 04, 2018, 07:44:46 AM »
Hello there  :lovey:
I recently purchased my first 3 G1 playsets :) ! The Pretty Parlour, Baby Bonnet school of dance and the Dream castle, at a cost of £6 each

I would be lying if i said they were perfect, but i mainly purchased them as a project to see if i could restore them to their former glory (Posts about this experiment will follow in the coming weeks).

I have conducted a bit of market research and it seems the Bonnet seems to be the least desirable of all the playsets, with one selling on eBay for 99p recently... Why do you think this is? because it doesn't display well or its common?

Also do you collect playsets? if you do which one Is your favourite? And if you don't why not?  :silly:

I think it's either Paradise Estate or the Crimp & Curl Hair Salon. I wanted both as a kid and had neither, though a friend had PE and I played with her with it a lot.

In my childhood building collection my favourite was probably the nursery, I played with it the most of all of them. I also liked Dream Castle but I remember keeping it together was sometimes interesting.

I am not so much a fan of the Grooming Parlours and the Show Stable. Maybe the Show Stable is my least favourite because it doesn't age well. My 2nd edition stable is also in poor state but I am too lazy to upgrade it and I've never tried to get Megan's Place.

I really do like the Satin Slipper Sweet Shoppe, too. It's really cute, but getting it as an adult collector means I never really had the experience of playing with it. It wasn't sold here. I do like it though.

Baby Bonnet School of Dance I think is pretty common which may explain the lower price - also it has a lot of pieces that break or discolour easily. My childhood one long since had its bow break off and I tied a bit of wide yellow ribbon on it so I could still carry it about :)

The most problematic set is probably the Waterfall but I can't help being fascinated by it...

The Kitchen and the School are both really nice playsets. But if you get them second hand there are so many little pieces I imagine you go a bit crazy trying to track them all down :D

Paradise Estate is by far my favorite and always has been since I was a kid. I love the playsets, but it's hard to have enough room for them. I once had an absolutely mint Paradise Estate with box, complete with all accessories (even all the tiny silverware), but sold it due to lack of space. I was so sad to part with it. I still have my childhood one, but it only has a few accessories left like the bed and couch, since I gave the accessories to a childhood friend long ago. I love all the playsets I played with as a kid. Between me and childhood friends, we had most of them. My other favorites are Dream Castle and the Lullabye Nursery.

I would think Baby Bonnet is sold for less because it's simpler, originally cost less and seems more common. I don't actively collect playsets due to lack of space, but I keep all of my childhood ones (stored away) and also keep a mint Dream Castle (because that's another of my favorites and my childhood one isn't in the best shape). If I had room I would buy the playsets my friends had that I did not have since those have happy childhood memories for me.

I would agree that the Baby Bonnet School of Dance is pretty common.  I would see that contributing to its price.  It's cute though!  My cousin had a lot of the playsets when we were kids because her older sister collected MLP as a kid.

My favorite would have to be the Lullabye Nursery.  I love the "block" form, the colors and accessories.  I have both versions of it.  That was another my cousin had at her house.  She also had the Show Stable and the Satin Slipper Sweet Shoppe, but those were kept at our grandmother's home to play with and so were dirty because they were kept out in the playhouse and porch.

My least favorite playset is probably the Grooming Parlor/Brush Me Beautiful Boutique.  They just seem kind of boring.  I never was one to enjoy hairstyling/brushing though.  Just the occasional braid is as fancy as I get.

I do collect playsets:
Pretty Parlor: needs upgrade as hinges are broken
Show Stable
Waterfall
Dream Castle
Lullaybe Nursery x2
Baby Bonnet School of Dance with box
Paradise Estate with box
Baby Pony Buggy
Megan's Place
Satin Slipper Sweet Shoppe with box-missing stickers
Perm Shoppe with box
Poof 'n Puff Perfume Palace
Home Sweet Home

Those still on my wish list:
Cascade's Waterfall
Gymkhana
Princess Baby Buggy
Picnic Day
Prize Day
Holiday
School House
Kitchen
Bed and Crib set

Well, the nursery was the only playset I had as a kid so I'm biased towards it.  The only playset that I've bought online and had shipped to me is Dream Castle, so that says something.  The other sets I have, where bought in person so it was a matter of buying them because I could.  The playset that I would like most currently is the waterfall, especially the the version that came with Cascade.

A good cheat of note with the UK waterfall is that it is basically the same as the US one except for the base. So you can get away with just acquiring a green base and Cascade ;) unless you want the box and instructions as well. We had both Sprinkles and Cascade here and Cascade is less common of the two so the box comes up less frequently...

Paradise Estate and the Lullabye Nursery are by far my favourites. I can only dream of ever owning PE but I did manage to get my hands on a mint condition, complete Lullabye Nursery for £40 (My dad had a heart attack but hey-ho, the things we do for ponies).

I do think owning PE would be a chore because of all the little bits that came with it, but I would love one. I'm not good at even keeping track of myself, so how I would keep track of all the accessories is beyond me.

Oh and I also love my Grooming Parlour. It is severely damaged and broken and basically disintegrated, but I love it to bits. It was my first ever playset and it came with my Aunts ponies, and it was a bit damaged then, but I wasn't exactly the most careful kid.

I could do with upgrading it, but I can't bring myself to replace it, haha!

The ones I had as a kid were Dream Castle, Waterfall, and Pretty Parlour so I’m partial to those!

Edit - I had the show stable too - not sure how I forgot about that!!!

I think my favorites were dream castle and the princess buggy <3 I took tons of pictures of both in my current collection.

I seriously have been wanting lullaby nursery my entire life though and have yet to find it thrifting which is the only means I'd have of acquiring it unless there was a pony meet.

Playsets aren’t really what I focus on in my collecting, but I do like them. I just don’t have the space!
My favorite would have to be lullabye nursery. It’s just so so cute and quaint! I see them on eBay quite often with decent prices and it’s very tempting!! It’s just so precious!

The Dream Castle! :inlove: I've wanted one for years now, always looking for the right lot with all the parts I need. Second would be the Paradise Estate.

I would hazard a guess that the baby-themed playsets are smaller, simpler, and originally sold cheaper in stores. So there's a glut of supply and a lack of demand which makes them still trend cheaper on the second hand market all these years later.

Childhood sets were: Baby Buggy, Lullabye Nursery, Brush Me Beautiful Boutique, Perfume Puff Palace, and the Princess Baby Buggy.

Lullabye Nursery remains my all-time favourite, even though I've got almost all the NA releases these days.  Waterfall remains the only one I wasn't able to track down locally.  The Kitchen and Schoolhouse are really nice too, and I would have adored either as a kid.  I did request the Paradise Estate but didn't get it, not too surprising considering how expensive it was back in the eighties.  It's actually one of my least favourite these days - the scale just seems a bit off, and many of the accessories work better for dolls than they do ponies.
G1 Wishlist  It's the final countdown! Looking to purchase the last few G1's for my collection - Watercolor Baby Sea Ponies Foamy, Misty & Surfy - Red Roses - SHS Sweet Sundrop - Springy - Teeny Tiny Snookums (#2)

Dream Castle is my all time favorite. It was my favorite as a child, I played with it to death, so much sentimental value. Mine sadly got thrown out and I've yet to find a replacement but it's at the top of my list.

My next favorite is the Lullaby Nursery, I have 3 because I keep finding them and can't leave them behind, lol. It's such a cute set.

I also had the Pretty Parlour and baby buggy as a child.

I do collect the playsets. I have:

Paradise Estate
Lullaby Nursery (3)
Show Stable
Waterfall
Pretty Parlour
Baby Buggy (2)

I would really like to get the Schoolhouse and Kitchen and of course Dream Castle. But if I found any others locally I would totally get them. None of my playsets are on display right now, space is an issue so we'll see how that goes as I get my collection room organized.
