buying used pokemon games
« on: May 04, 2018, 06:21:52 AM »
sometimes when im bored and have a bit of cash  to spare I like to  look at used pokemon DS games.
I find it quite fun to see what pokemon the previous owners have left behind.    some times you find good stuff , sometimes you dont.

I think i found some gems  this time tho!

so we got this lot of 5 games off of a local buy/sell/swap page.

black 2 did not have a save file at all,  and the others all the pokemon had been migrated over to the copy of sun.

so what was on it?    a heap of "junk" and  the usual 2 boxes of legendaries,
what I'm intrested in tho was  these   *(photos under spoilers )

we  had a hand full of shinnies

Oh wow, congrats!!! I bought my only game secondhand, but the previous owner had only made it a bit of the way past where you get your starter. It was a copy of Sun.

I have Platinum in Japanese. I bought it to play but it's so stacked out with shinies and stuff that's obviously hacked I kind of just stared at it and then never did anything with it at all xD.

I also remember getting Black...or White...one of them with lots of baby pokemon in the team. Nothing else, just them. Weird. They were all the same pokemon but the name I can't remember right now. I wonder if someone was using it for the Masuda method.

I am wary of buying second hand games though, because of the risk of bootlegging and stuff. It's really sad that that happens :(

I took my nephew to buy a new game after he got his 2DS and since the Ultra games were new, he got Ultra Moon and then picked out a used copy of [regular] Sun.  When we looked at the Sun game, there was one of every Pokemon on it (with the sole exception of Marshadow).  So he picked out which Pokemon he wanted to keep (and let me pick what I wanted, too!) and I used my Pokebank to hold onto them and then he restarted the game and as soon as he got the dex, I put them all back into his game for him.

I think I've only ever bought two Pokemon games used - Diamond and FireRed. I don't think either had save files on them. If they did, I deleted them immediately. However, I played the former in 2008 and the latter in 2009 so you'll have to forgive me for not remembering.

I would be skeptical of any such amazing collection of shiny legendaries, by the way. I know some of them in circulation are...not real, if you know what I mean?

The only second had game I bought was diamond to replace mine as it had an accident shall we say.

There were lots of high level Pokémon but you could tell that most of them had not being levelled up in the game. I just reset the game as I am not interested in hacked Pokémon I always worry that if I transfer them to another game they will destroy it.

DD has had Yellow, which my cousins gave to her and I've bought her Guardian Sign and Platinum secondhand. All were wiped.
