I have been thinking about this.

I haven't repaired rusted piggy eyes myself, I had only replaced a pupil and fixed broken eyes in place.

I wonder if this might be useful?

I do know some people clean up BBE babies using WD40, blasting it is so it flushes the rust out.

Thanks pkw :) I have been eyeing the wd40 in the cupboard but haven't mustered up the courage to do it and see what happens yet. I will update if I do end up doing it. The eyes haven't yellowed yet but rust is certainly starting to show, the inside of her head however is completely clean

It'll be inside the eye socket then :( The blinky mechanism in a BBE has some metal parts, I am thinking it will be similar to the piggy ponies eye.

I understand why you are nervous, I would be as well.

Don't know about restoring the eyes, but I can confirm piggies eyes are thin metallic balls with the visible plastic part inside it, kind of like in a shell, (should I show pictures or?) so you probably would need to remove the whole eye to clean it. :/ I have no idea can you just pop them back in, but I doubt it.

Thanks I had her head popped off so had seen how the eye socket worked, I was surprised to see the plastic backing. I did get the wd40 out and gave it a whirl. No rust came out but at least everything is well lubricated :p I am please to report so far there is no damage from the wd40 I tried it out over a month ago

I see! Great that it worked out well, I honestly didn't even notice how old the thread was.

The BBE eyes are the same :) it’s a plastic socket and the “eyeball” sits in it :) I’m glad you tried the WD40, she will be able to blink nicely now.

I can attest to WD40. I believe I applied/scrubbed it with a q-tip, and it got all the rust off.
