South African Playsets?
« on: April 10, 2018, 07:23:59 AM »
I recently got a lot from Craigslist, and the seller said she had more in her attic. She knew a fair bit about ponies and nirvanas. And she also said she had a South African Show Stable. I asked and she doesn't have Lemon Drop with it. She could be selling me some more stuff soon, and I could ask to see it! Maybe I could even buy it one day... If it is actually a SA playset. I haven't seen it, so I don't know for sure. So... Are there any SA playsets?

We know regular release ponies were sold in South Africa, so it might well be a HK/China made Show Stable :) on the other hand with out seeing it or it's box it is hard to tell exactly what it is. It could be the stable was imported and boxed in South Africa and sold that way, or it was stock that was regular, regular box and just imported.

You might find this spotlight helpful ^.^

May be one of our South African members can help us out :)

I still have my Pretty Parlour and Show Stable, they look pretty much the same as normal to me. Sadly the boxes were never kept though... It did come with Lemon Drop. She was lost with most of my herd, but I still have most of the accessories.

We really got a diverse mix of ponies here so it could just be a regular one imported and sold in SA as was a lot of my little pony merchandise.

I can take a photo of it tonight if you would like to see?

Hmm... Yeah, I don't know if she meant it was a regular release sold in South Africa, or if it was an actual nirvana playset. I'm not sure if I will go over there again. Thanks guys :)

I will take a photo of both of them and post when I can. It's raining today, so the light is pretty bad but I will do so as soon as possible  :)

That's interesting. The Grooming Parlour says 'Pretty Parlor' on the label which means it's a US import...

Just thinking of the discussion in the other thread (spotlight) about distribution in South Africa, that's a firm piece of evidence of something from the US release being sold in South Africa, rather than through UK distribution.

Not pointless! In fact I hadn't noticed it was a Pretty Parlour sticker over a Grooming Parlour sticker and it's important.

Could it be similar to the Australian market where they appeared to import from both UK and US?

That would be my guess too - but maybe not necessarily the same ranges.

Yes, I think they just randomly threw ponies our way from where ever. We have a lot of Italian manufactured ponies here. Too many to have been brought over by happy holidaying pony purchasers IMO, so they must have been sold here too. But why? Who can say...
