Goofy animal storys
« on: April 02, 2018, 07:55:09 PM »
So oddly enough this story will not be about one of my cats. However I doubt it would be hard to remember a goofy story as Pixel does something silly almost daily.

BUT This story is about my hermit crabs. I have three known as Atlas, Hercules, and Orion. I guess I love the idea of tiny lil critters having big sounding names. Iv had them for about 2-3 years now and each of them do indeed have their own personality's and hobbies. I keep them in a big 50gal tank full of places for them to explore. Atlas loves to travel and climb, Ill often find him inexplicably latched onto some area of the tank that I had no idea was even accessible to him. Orion is kinda the literal hermit crab, he stays in the dark areas and just kinda minds his own business. Hercules has attachment issues and refuses to move out of his much too tiny shell! Which brings us to todays story!

Today I decided to move the tank, all three were out in the open and accounted for so I knew it was safe, Its really not safe to change substrate or anything if one might be molting as it can kill them. I really needed to relocate the tank to a better area, because I was having a lot of trouble maintaining humidity where it was, but moving it means unloading 150lbs of sand and sub xD so its a bit of a process! I put all three crabs in a bin and just put the whole collection of spare shells in with them, then went to work. Fast forward 2 hours, and I've got their new place all set up and fresh for them. I start to put them in and WHO do you think decided to start exploring new shells?

Yep Hercules decided that this exact moment was going to be the time to start trying on shells.. So now they have a fresh new pad but they have to just hang out in a bin for a while so as not to disturb him while he "hopefully" actually moves in and stays in a shell thats bigger than the one he leaves. rofl Hercules is sorta known for his shell attachment.. When I bought him he was in a painted shell and I desperately wanted it OUT of the tank and away from the other crabs but he hung onto it for a year.

Have your pets done anything thats goofy lately? I thought this might be a fun thread to read. I love animals doing weird or silly things!

I really love it when small animals like that, which are often viewed as unintelligent and boring, show that they have personalities too. And I love it when people take the time and care to appreciate them.

Nirvana grails:  Reverse Gusty (upgrade), Peru Windy and Moonstone (upgrade), Brazil TAF upgrades, Argie Powder w/ white hair (upgrade), French Windy and Moondancer (upgrades), Spain TAF's, TE's, and piggies.  These are my biggest wants, but I'm looking for tons more nirvanas, especially Greeks, Brazilians, and Peruvians.  Feel free to PM me for sales or trades.  But please note that I'm also fairly picky.

That is such an adorable story! I've always wondered about hermit crabs as pets, I've heard they're full or personality and yours sound like quite the characters lol. ^.^

I can provide quirky cat stories galore, they're all I post about on Facebook, but I'll restrain myself. I have three rescue girls called Shenanigans, Calamity (sisters) and Pandemonium (adopted sister), and they sure do live up to their names - plus they have serious tortitude (all three being Tortoiseshells).

Calamity is our most playful cat, she has a toy mouse that was once stuffed with catnip but has since been disemboweled. Her favourite thing to do with Riffraff (the mouse toy) is to dangle it over the edge of the stairs and drop him to the floor below, then race down to fetch him so she can do it again. She's the only one who plays with Riffraff, occasionally Shenanigans will pick it up but I've seen Calamity slap her in the face for it lol. She also loves laundry baskets, if I put a leaf of catnip in the basket she loses her head and starts spinning around like a breakdancer.

What a great thead. :)

My old hamster, Lewis, used to have a favourite wood chew toy.  I don't think he ever chewed it but it always ended up in his hideout no matter where I moved it to after cleaning his cage.  He was also weird in that he never came out if the lights were on.  It was a treat when occasionally I'd call to him when I'd leave in the morning and he'd pop his head out for a minute as if to say goodbye.
Thank you to SquarePeg for my beautiful avi.

Animals are so amazing, I love hearing what people's pets get up to. The hermit crabs sound awesome.

I can happily talk for hours about the various adventures and cute habits of my cat Garfield. He's going to be ten years old this month, but he still thinks he's a playful little kitten! He's also extremely inquisitive and especially loves looking in and/or climbing into cupboards and other unlikely hidey-holes.

The other day, he discovered the tap in the bathroom sink. He watched the water running, then reached out with his right paw and put it under the water. Oh noes!! The paw got wet!! Cue shaking of paw and horrified cat. Minutes passed. Then he reached out and put his left paw under the water. Shock horror! That one got wet too! Well, he wasn't going to be caught out a third time. Clearly under the tap was no place for paws. He watched the water carefully, then leaned forward and put his nose under it....oh my goodness, this water has no respect for the sacredness of the feline nose! The nose is wet, the nose is wet! Cue shaking of face, rubbing with paw, and exiting the bathroom. That is it, this cat is never playing with the tap again....well, at least not until tomorrow

I love how animals are so quirky, even tiny little hermit crabs

I have three cats and I could write a book of all of their weird antics.. I have a 16 year old calico who still gets the craze and run around playing. But whenever she notices she's being watched she just sits down and begin to wash herself pretending it's all she's done the entire time and then she gives me that look of "what?!" Clearly she's too old and ladylike to run around playing like that, what are we thinking? She would never do that!

My seven year old tuxedo is extremly smart. He can open doors both way, he figured out where the dot comes from the laserpointer so it's no fun and most toys are just boring. Still he can't figure out the ativity ball and despite it being full of his favorite treats he simply ignores it. It has the shape of a rounded cone where you just push it down and a treat fall out before it rises up again on it's own. He don't get it despite being shown. He idolises the calico and whenever he manage to lay down next to her he looks so proud! She on the other hand does not like him and everytime she wakes up and see how close he is she gets so grumpy.. Also, he sounds like a dove when he purrs.

Finally we have the six year old ginger. Despite being the largest, he thinks he's the smallest and don't understand why he wont fit in some spaces. He tries to cram in again and again and gets frustrated when it doesn't work. He is also very determined when it comes to cuddles. I'm not allowed to pick him up or pet him whenever, but when he wants cuddles he wont take no for an answer. If he wants to be in my lap, I'll just have to let everything go and let him do it because he will continue to try till he succeeds and being so large I'll need both hands to hold him in place. I have spent many an hour just holding him while watching the screen while he lies on his back being hold by me and having the best time of his life.. I've learnt to be superfast in opening youtube and starting a random video just to have something to see during. He sounds like a crying toddler when he meows..

This morning I was on the phone talking to a post office employee whilst still in bed. My cat heard that I was awake, jumped on the bed, came up to the phone and screamed "MEOW!" The lady obviously heard it because she stopped mid sentence and was just silent. I didn't know if I should apologise or pretend it didn't happen. I didn't say anything about it but I'd like to think it spiced up her day a bit. Getting yelled at by a cat instead of the customer.

My dog acts like a cat.  She licks her herself and can also make a purring noise. She can also open doors if they’re not closed all the way.

Not quite an animal, but we had a goldfish when I was a kid who was an interior decorator in a previous life. Seriously.

Her name was Pearl. She was more white than gold, hence the name.

We used to have coloured gravel in the fish tank, and it was all mixed in together. Pearl would spend ages resorting the gravel so that the same colours were together in different parts of the tank. We also had some large gems in there, and she'd shunt them around the place as well. Then, when she just about had it like she wanted, we'd clean the tank and change through the water and she'd have to begin all over again.

People who say goldfish have no memory or intelligence have never spent any time watching goldfish, but Pearl was possibly exceptional in this regard.

I had my cat come screaming into the room when my supervisor came over to check on me back when my phone had broke and i hadn't had the chance to get a new one, so I couldn't call. none of my neighbors were home so couldn't use their phones. she had just wanted to make sure I wasn't playing hooky and here comes all eight pounds of indignant ornj mama cat yelling at the top of her head. supervisor just laughed the situation and asked how my body guard was the next time i came into work.

Once while we were babysitting our neighbor's beagle do the day, he went upstairs for a while and came back down with my dad's underwear around his neck.

And I can't forget about my cat diving into the toilet... twice.

I once had a cat named spice, who loved spice cake and was a notorious doughnut thief. If you ever left a doughnut on the table, he would reach up, grab it, then run off and eat it.

One time when I was little, my dad and his friend were working on the roof of our house. My cat Tigie got out the door. He jumped onto the hood of our car and climbed up onto the roof of the car. The car was parked by the house. He then jumped from the roof of the car to the roof of our one-story house. Then he walked around on the roof, greeting my dad and his friend as if to say, "Hey. Whatcha doin'?"

Hmmm. Funny animal stories...

My little sugar glider, Velcro, was out playing around in the bathroom with me. Climbing around on towels, on me, the counter, etc. He was fairly young still.  He climbed up a towel, leapt up spread-eagled and tried to stick to the wall. Naturally, that was a Fail, and he landed with a splat on the floor. Knocked the wind out of himself, he did get pretty shaken by it. He recovered ok, but from that day forward he refused to jump more than a few inches in any direction, and he never learned to glide. He just refused to jump.

Our dog, Tessa (aka Stupidog), is not the brightest bulb. She hates water. Hates it. Goes out of her way to avoid puddles, will only get wet up to her ankles to retrieve a toy from the pond, and under no circumstances wants to swim. She was rolling on a dead fish one day, right at the edge of the pond, with enthusiasm and gusto and groaning with delight, all four legs in the air. She rolled the wrong way, and rolled right into the water. What was worse, the bottom is slippery, and she had a really good flounder/thrash trying to get upright. She had water in her nose, her ears, and was wet all the way to the top. She clambered out and gave me The Dirtiest Look. She thought I had pushed her in. To this day, years later, she won't trust me within three feet of her if she is near the pond.

One evening, all the chores are done, spring and baby season in full swing. We're just finishing supper, bring the dog in, and she crashes on her mat by the TV.  We go to sit down, and soon as I walk in the room, I start sniffing. What the heck is that smell?!  It's horrid! Where is it coming from?  Smells like... gawd, did the snake regurgitate half digested rat and leave it on the heat pad for two days?  No. Snake cage is clean. Better not be something dead in the wall because I am NOT putting up with that smell for days. Hunt around and hunt around, and ... OMG it's coming from the dog. What the heck did you roll in this time Stupidog?!  Stand still, stand still, what the...?!  Ew, geez, Stupidog has about a foot of creamy off white and black smeared down her shoulder. I grab her collar to escort her to the bathtub, only to wrench my hand away upon coming into contact with something cold and slimy. Oh yeah!  She had a grand old time. She had found a dead bullfrog who knows where, that had fermented under the ice all winter, the only reason I could tell what it was is that one leg was partially still intact. The rest was a gooey disgusting mess, and was not only all down her shoulder, but most of it was wedged into the prongs on her prong collar. I have a pretty strong constitution, but that just about did me in.

Adopted a tortoise. Had her out in the 'tortoise playpen' in the back yard. I step into the pen to check on them, and she starts attacking my feet. Chasing me around, and trying to bite my toes. Haha, I had freshly painted red toenails... and her fav food is strawberries. The other two torts know the difference. Squirtle apparently, does not.

Today I got to see my cat be a klutz and roll/fall off the bed. Poor kitty is freaked out and now wont sit on the bed. Due to the trauma he needed lots of pets, and treats.
