“Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious. And however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at. It matters that you don’t just give up.”
Professor Stephen Hawking 1942-2018!

Devastating :(

He was able to bring his ideas and knowledge to such a wide audience. He also wasn't afraid to admit he didn't know everything, and when he was wrong - something a lot of regular people have trouble doing, much less a brilliant mind like him.

An absolute shame a brain like his is gone. But he’s left a legacy that generations will know. Stephen Hawking, you will be dearly missed.

Interesting that he died on Pi Day. Wonder if he thought it out? Either way, the world has lost a great mind. He will be missed.

I wasn't that much of a fan but I did respect his point of view.

Saw last night  :(
I was hoping that hopefully awareness for ALS would be spread again and donations would be urged for instead of dumping water this time, but the one article I saw just called it a "rare form of motor neuron disease" and didn't name it. (Unless they were referring to another disease that he had)

I think he's important in so many ways.

Scientifically, yes.

As a person - a human being, a parent, and a guy with a sense of humour about things, yes.

As a visible representative of what disabled people can achieve, yes.

As someone who defied the odds, yes.

And also as a fierce supporter of the NHS, which is increasingly important with the current govt we have now.

One of the great British minds of recent history, who never minded becoming the butt of a comedy sketch in order to raise money for Comic Relief, to help other people's lives improve.

It's really sad that he's passed away. But then the huge victory of passing away at the age of 76 when aged 22 or so he was given 3 years to live is also his triumph. He made a lot of his life in spite of his difficulties, and that's to be admired.

Rest in Peace Prof. Hawking.

That's sad.  I didn't see it until just now.  I remember watching that movie about him.  It must be so how to be of sound mind and body but be stuck with that disability.  His mind will be missed.  I'm sorry for his family.

I wonder if he experienced the things he expected he would upon death.
