G4 ponies in plastic bag?

Think I can be honest here and say I know nothing about G4 so maybe this is normal.

I was in the Entertainer today doublechecking the pony section (I do this fairly frequently lately on the hunt for the retros) and they have G4 singles in plastic bags with MLP branded card on top. There was a Pinkie Pie, a purple pegaus and something else all being sold for £3 each.

I've seen them before but it was a lone Pinkie Pie, they seem to have restocked.

I assume these ponies are end of line clearance stock as my only comparison is to the random G1s I picked up back in the early 90s in a similar manner. Anyone got any idea or are we just proving again that Plymouth is a dumping ground for randomness?

Those bagged G4s have been around since 2014, I believe. They get restocked pretty regularly, too. I see them just about every time I go to Walmart or Target.

They appeared in Entertainer here around November/December. Sister got Cheerilee, Lily Blossom and Lyra for £2 each because they didn't have them properly priced then so I guess that's when they first arrived here? I heard they've been at other stores though I haven't seen them?

I am annoyed because the one that I don't have from the set (Lyrica..?) hasn't appeared here. All the others in multiple, but not her. Sigh. Never mind...

But they seem to be a discount alternative to the others. They don't have as much colour range in their manes/tails (see Rainbow Dash for a really clear example, though sister and I compared her Cheerilee to mine and we saw other differences too.

nah, they're not a UK thing, they were released in the US years ago. I think they were released around Easter IIRC? No idea what the story behind them is, or why we suddenly got them years later (probably they're old US stock that've been dumped on us, I guess?). B&M had them for a while, not sure if they still do.

They didn't release Lyrica like this only Applejack, Fluttershy, Cheerilee, Lily Blossom, Lyra, Pinkie, RD and Rarity.

They've been plaguing Target checkout areas for the past 4 years! Nice for me to practice yarn rehairing since they are cheaper than standards.

Definitely extra stock being dumped off here! My local B and M had them in for most of last year, and now the entertainer has them all in!
