Prototype pony? ID and PC
« on: March 06, 2018, 12:08:30 PM »
I can't remember who this pony is or where she comes from. The country on her hoof looks not so much scratched out as filled in in the mold before she was cast... I'm assuming she's a prototype as her face is completely unpainted and she doesn't have any holes for her mane.

I can't imagine she's worth very much seeing as at some point in the past I was able to afford to buy her in the first place

I think she's an Argentina "Twilight".  No clue on the price though.

Argies like that aren't prototypes so much as they're unfinished or hair/paint tests.  You can find almost any combination of symbol with either white or orange hair.  They're really diverse!  :)

Oh, that's really interesting! She's a strange, pretty thing.

She is from Argentina and is unfinished rather than a prototype or test.

There are a lot of different variations you can find, a few are shown here:

Here is the information I have on them, which I have in the nirvana gallery ^.^

Quote
It is believed that these ponies had their symbols added at a later date and the ponies, tails and accessories came from a toy factory when it shut down. Unfinished ponies are missing paint work, manes and tails. Some have no plug holes or tail hole. "I bought these with and without symbol about 10 years ago (2006) from an argentinian seller. The background story that was told to me is that when the factory shut down many employees took the unfinished ponies with them. And that could be a reason why there are a lot of blank ones." -Barnacle_lady

ETA I'm sure I recall LadyG saying someone has the symbol stamps at one point too and was using them to "create" ponies, this was at the same time as the "repaired hair" ponies in 2005-2006.

That's so interesting! Do they still count as Nirvanas then, or is their status bit hazy? And what are the repaired hair ponies?

I guess they are a bit of a grey area, but they still count as they came out of the Top Toys factory, it is just a bit hazy after that.

Oh in 2002-2006 or so there were TONS of Argie ponies on eBay and some sellers were fixing the ponies up, rehairing them and such. However, they weren't always listed as rehaired/fixed up so it  looked like lots of new variants were appearing. It soon came to light and the sellers started making their auctions as "repaired hair".

I have since removed all the confirmed rehairs from the nirvana gallery, but they often had pale blue hair which is quite course to the touch.
