It's so fun reading through these replies. Some of you guys had some really rare ponies (from my U.S. perspective!) growing up. Brightglowpony, that's so cool that you had Fireball because of your English neighbor! And it's a funny thing you mentioned, Taffeta, that Glory and others would have been rare to you while you had Mountain Boys straight from stores when you were growing up. Kazzelin, I think it's so cute that you and your friend got Baby Milky Ways together, and that they were the different versions. Certainly helps to tell them apart when you're playing! Shabbychicdee, I think you might win the prize for currently-most-expensive childhood pony. I hope you get that alt. birthflower someday! I love everyone's stories! Keep them coming! ^.^

My gf's childhood ponies (now part of our joint collection) include Baby Milky Way (with no tail, though!), Mountain Boy Sunburst, Tales Bright Eyes, and the 3 UK Activity Club baby ponies. She got them all from charity shops in the 1990s. It was a bit strange when we started collecting and realised that ponies she'd bought for a few pence were selling on eBay for high prices! I'm really glad we have Bright Eyes, because if we didn't we would definitely want her - so we saved some money there! The Activity Club babies are also firm favourites.

Finding out about UK versus US ponies was a surprise too. Gypsy, Honeycomb and Snowflake were all part of the childhood herd. The lack of Ribbon, Firefly and Moondancer (who did after all appear on various bits of UK merchandise) had always seemed inexplicable, and now made sense at last!

No, all of my ponies were pretty common ones from memory.  It actually makes the fact that I lost my entire childhood herd while we were moving house a bit less painful, actually.  I think I'd have a complete meltdown if I'd had a large collection of HTFs that had been lost.  I still wonder where my ponies ended up...

My Glory is really precious to me even though she had to get a repalcement tail and has a well loved symbol because she is the first and only Glory I ever picked up in the UK :/ Still don't know how she got here but I'm not complaining ;) Moondancer too. I got them together at the same stall. I still consider them more 'rare' than the Mountain Boys even though absolute collector logic dictates that Glory and Moondancer are worth about $5 and the Mountain Boys about 6x that. Maybe that's what I can't get my head around. Not that the MBs are common now, but back in the mid 1990s they were not hard to pick up. And I still never saw a Medley at a UK sale of any kind. My Medley and any doubles I ever had all came from the US, so for me, any of you who had Medley as a childhood pony (or Sparkler, or Skyflier, or Tickle, or Flutterbye...etc) had rare ponies to me ;)

I shouldn't complain mind you, because those MB doubles basically resolved my how to get all the US Mail Order ponies problem...

I remember my childhood friend and I had both versions of Milky Way the adult between us. So funny that someone had the same happen with the baby version xD.

I guess we all take for granted the ponies we grew up with.

Not rare, but I have Mimic from childhood. Based on what’s written on the bottom of her hoof, she was only $1.75! Obviously, picked up for me second hand, as were all my childhood ponies since I was born in 1987.

-not rare
-Mimic

You have a gem right there, that's pretty cool.

My sister and I had some MO g3 ponies but we think they got given away. We had a few exclusive winter g3s as well. I also ha Aloha Pearl and she seems really popular right now.

Not really but my cousin had all four of the UK exclusive set that included Gypsy, Honeycomb, Hopscotch and Snowflake.  Not supre rare but nice to have memories of those ponies from my childhood.

I had US Powder as a child, she was a gift from my cousins who lived in LA at the time :) I guess she was "rare" for me to have then.

Other than that I had the usual UK/Euro ponies which were standard release.

I had Red Roses and Mint Dreams.  They went to school with me everyday and I would play with them while waiting my turn in the carpool line.  I wish my mom would have kept all my ponies but she only kept my LPS, Barbies, and dolls.  I still have no idea what really happened to them all.

Not really. I had a bunch but I only really remember playing with gusty, wind whistler and magic hat. HOWEVER, I have a friend that spent her childhood on various military bases, one of them being in italy. She has a MINT magenta blossom . I went over one day to check out her collection and there she was. In all her italian glory.

I had HK white Tootsie, so not super rare. On her backcard she was green, so I always wondered why mine was white, and never found out until I was an adult collector.

To be fair, I still don't think we really know why that Tootsie is white. Except that Hasbro are odd. ;)

I had the mail order Mommy and Baby set! I sold them to a member on here a while back. :(   I wish that I never did that cause they were mint and had original curls! :(

Wait-- the merry go round ponies are rare? I still have my Diamond Dreams in good condition.
