Saying good-bye to a custom
« on: February 14, 2018, 09:48:05 AM »
So, time ago I tried the art of customizing ponies, using 2 G4s and a fakie. All that came out of that project was a full-fledged custom and two half-done ones. Thing is, not long ago I came up with the conclusion that I don't like G4s anymore and that I'm no longer invested in this project, so I might as well drop it.

The matter is, while I can throw away the fakie without a second thought since it is the one I made the least advancement with, I am too sentimentally attached to the others. I cannot just feed them to the garbage and I'm not selling them because uhm, let's say they don't have the best quality . I'm considering finishing the WIP and putting them in a time capsule i've got hanging around, so they're are technically still with me but "not really"  :satisfied:

Still, I'm curious. What do you do when you think it's time to dispose of a custom? I know striping them off of paint and dehairing them to start all over is an option, but I don't know to what extent.

I don't make a lot of customs and the ones I do are usually for sale.  But, I have a lot of customs from swaps over the years and when I need to pare down my collection, I offer them back to their makers.  I never toss them.  If it was a custom I'd made that I wasn't happy with, I'd offer it as bait to someone else.

I'm guilty of tossing a couple of WIP customs. They had been either cut up or had significant sculpting (including on the inside, for stability) and trying to salvage them wasn't worth it

They were G3s. I wouldn't do that with a G1 or a custom I hadn't made myself.

If all else fails, just paint them in glue and dip them in glitter, attach a ribbon
 - et voila -
you have a sparkly Christmas tree ornament

It seems sad that you would want to throw them away into the trash!   :(

I certainly have my fair share of failed, or misplaced motivation customs.. lol some i finished but soon after decided weren't as great as I had invisioned them, some that I started a good ways on and then decided that I was no longer happy with this idea so I stop halfway.

you COULD strip them completely and sell them as baits, or you could even sell them as baits as is, who knows some artist might have an idea to use the existing ponies and take them to the next step.

Personally I have kept mine, They have a special spot on the top shelf of my supply cabinet. I always see them when I open it up, and I think, maybe someday Ill get back to that project, or maybe I can do it better next time.

A time capsule might be a cool idea though!

Why chuck em? You could give them away or sell them as baits.
