Bait Appreciation Post! Show me your baits!
« on: January 29, 2018, 10:12:17 AM »
I love baits! They have the least amount of hair, and their symbols are rubbing off and they have sharpie on them, but you know what? They are loved so much by children and adults! Not only that, but they are greatly priced in auctions and sales posts!

Please show me your best baits because I am here to see all the beautiful baits of the world with their terrific haircuts and dents.

What a great idea! I'll have to get photos of my Masquerade, she's for sure in bait condition. I love bait ponies, and restoring them!

I have 2 baits and a handful of ponies that could use some serius restoration (hair cuts, pen marks, rubbed glitter symbols) but none of those are severe enough for me to dismiss them as baits, partially because they're childhood ponies and were probably in better condition when my sister or I got them.

First up: baits Lemondrop and Moondancer. They were absolutely disgusting when I got them, smelled like smoke, but after about 2 or 3 years of sitting in baking soda, all that's left is slime and dirt. Also less marker on Lemondrop than there was before, though Moondancer's symbols are all marker. Funny, she's more white than my nice Moondancer. Not to mention Lemondrop's head/body mismatch and lack of tail.

Next up are the baitiest childhood ponies I have. Sunlight has so many scuffs and marks, her head turns easily, yet her glitter symbols are pristine. Sunbeam rattles and her tail isn't too hard to pull out. Sadly most glitter symbols on my childhood ponies didn't hold up well. Poor Firefly even got some brown discoloration recently from being next to a plush Dr Whooves.

Aww such a cute thread!

I just love how a neglected pony can be bought cheaply and then brought back to its former glory with a bit of tlc.

The satisfaction of giving a grubby pony a scrub and watching as its body starts to look clean!

(I have no fotos to hand at the mo'.)

When we were kids at carboot sales, my sister used to pick up every sad pony she could find. I had to actually stop her doing this at ponycon too. She used to save them from ebay lots. She's got a squished dutch pony, an applejack with no nose...a lot of really beat up ponies she saved as her 'Sanctuary'. I think she has around 60 in all. I used to put them on the website as 'Munchy's Sanctuary' back then when she was still young...

I swear, if she could, she'd rescue them all.

Great thread idea! I’m not a picky collector so the majority of my g1s are bought at car boots and in the cheap boxes at ponycon  ^.^
Here are some of mine, some are okay and some are true bait, but I couldn’t customise them, they’re too sweet as they are. I have put some notes about some of them in the spoilers below, so as not to annoy you with my excessive rambling  ;)

Spoiler
The cream pony in Pyjamas is star shine. She had been painted dark purple with nail polish, which was sticky and staining everything. So I removed it all. Sadly as the colour was so dark her body is permanently purple, hence the pjs. I can’t repaint her body, as her head is cream now, and I don’t want to paint her head and body as she still has her symbols and eyes intact. As she’s the discolouring starshine I can’t sun fade either  :(

Spoiler
Cotton candy has been partially restored, she was full of chunks of mould and was just generally grey looking. She also has no tail. She’s now got a tail again :) bubbles came with her, also full of mould, and I’m considering sun fading the red mark away this year. Sunlight also came with them, and she was full of rust and mould, with terrible glitter rusting and pindot across her face.

Spoiler
kisscurl with the buzz came in an eBay lot of ponies with various hair lengths. She came with her yellow hat from the grooming parlour too!the other was a car boot rescue, and she’s totally faded and squished. However she’s the China version that I didn’t yet have so I’m super happy

Star Shine in PJs is a great idea to cover the staining to her body   :thumb:

Not sure if these would be considered bait enough but they're the poorest condition from my collection. Still love them to bits!

Yellowing, tail cut, rubbed symbols and scratched paint eyes, especially severe on the right side.

Totally faded symbols (pretty normal in this pony, though) super frizzy hair and haircut.

(Left one) Yellowing, wear, rubbed eyes, slight faded symbols, tail cut.

I totally agree. They are well-loved ponies.

I recently bought a Peachy with a big heart drawn on her side...

It is part of her character...

If she were mine I would call her Nefertiti after the Egyptian queen - her blank eye reminds me of her famous statue!

Wait, she didn't have enough hearts on her already that they decided she needed another one? O.o.

This is my baity-est one. She’s got a bad haircut, no tail, broken earring, and has part of a hood missing. I plan on restoring her soon though. I think she has good potential.

Sorting ponies today, felt that I ought to share my Plumitas (NC Tickle) with you guys. I rescued her years ago when trading with someone overseas. She basically just needed a home with love and not too much judgement and I've never upgraded her :/

When I move her her head actually swings around on its own. It's a little disconcerting ;) And I have no idea what is up with her tail. O.o. I am sure it shouldn't go at that angle. BUT IT DOES O.O.
