I can't remember how but I found a Flickr account that has VERY high quality scans of different French 80's/90's toy catalogues, and many of them feature G1 ponies. And they have an album specifically for pamphlet scans. I've been having a hayday going through it all, I found a lot of things I'd never even seen before, here's just a sample of my favorite bits!

I love this collection - and have already bored poor PKW's email account off with a bunch of babble about it in terms of information about the French release.

I think all the pictured french inserts have a Uk equivalent but there are subtle differences that make them interesting. For example...

There are also sets included on the French one and not the UK and vice versa, I think - though off the top of my head I am not sure what has been swapped in or out for the playtime/fancy pant set and the TEs. Those TEs here were on the earlier insert so I wonder what's on there instead of them in the UK...pity my brochures are at home.

There lies also the reason the French didn't have stickers with their flutter ponies. That insert's dated 1987 but it's actually from 1988, and there are no stickers in 1988. In the UK, those flutters are on the 1987 insert, with the TEs and the Mountain Boys. And had stickers. Mystery solved.

I also love the fact there are catalogue images because aside the US Sears ones I only have seen UK ones for Argos. Having another European catalogue group of images is really useful information to work from.

Edit -you know, I've seen that image of the Rainbow Ponies in the parade procession lots of times, but for the first time I find myself wondering if that mail order came about because Hasbro had a surplus of ponies originally intended for Europe/UK but they didn't get here? Europe largely made their own or didn't sell them (UK)...so did Hasbro offer them in the US instead...?

Interesting possibility..o.O given so many end of line US ponies ended up here...in bags...
