I have used the Butterick pattern in the past and it doesn't look same as the commercial ones. It was a bit bigger and more simplified, especially the head looked different. For example it didn't have a separate mid piece for the head.
Do you have any photos?

I managed to find one picture from my Photobucket. I needed to upload it using Tumblr because PB is not usable anymore.

Isn't Lickety-Split sort of a harder to find plushie, being from the 2nd set?  I mean, I'm not saying it would be bad to dissect a baity plushie, but I guess part of me hopes someone can find a baity Cotton Candy or Moondancer . . . (Especially the Moondancer with the gold horn because, let's face it, that was not a very good representation of Moondancer, lol.)

Of that set I think she's the easiest to find.  In any event, at the very least part of the pony would have to be taken apart for repairs anyway.

I've been thinking about this pattern all day; aside from the head, which I'd need to carefully inspect, I think I have a pretty decent idea how to make one.

It looks like the Butterick pattern is ok but could be better. I'd like to see a pattern for the turned head pose, like Starshine. What other ponies have that pose?

Starshine, Parasol, Windy, Glory, and Moondancer all have turned heads.

Odd, my Parasol doesn't but my Starshine does.

There are open mouth (head turn) and closed mouth (straight neck) versions of all three Rainbow Ponies, IIRC.

Windy doesn't have a straight-head version, but the other 2 do.  The funny thing is the straight-head rainbow ponies have purple in their hair instead of pink!

EDIT - I'm drafting a Softies pattern.

Hm, well that explains why I only found 5/6 after all these years, now doesn't it?  :P
I wonder why they didn't make a second version of Windy, just the other two.  Strange.

You don't need to fully disasseble a plush to pattern it either; if you turn it inside out you can trace the pieces using a pencil, and if you use tracing paper & are very careful you can even pattern a plush without undoing any seams

I've created patterns from a plush before now by "mummying" the plush up with masking tape and tissue paper. Then I carefully cut the "mummy wrappings" off and use that to create a pattern :)

Oh yeah. A (duct) tape dummy. Common practice when making custom fit costumes for someone not local, and putting fur on homemade animal costumes. I've done that a couple times, surprised I hadn't thought of it.
