to kill a plush for a greater good?
« on: January 15, 2018, 05:28:23 AM »
Hey there pony folks,

i got a g1 lickety split plus with rubbed eyes and chopped hair - is it ok to take her apart to have a sewing pattern? or better get her rehaired / customized? Aren't there any original sewing patterns already around from someone with the same idea? Would somebody be interested in the pattern? We could make the pattern a bigger or smaller scale for mini or giant plushes
She can be seen in one of my IG posts https://www.instagram.com/p/BKNVgP3gQq7/?taken-by=cotton_candy_kittens

Thank you all for your help  :)

I'll be lurking on this thread until you post the pattern!  :awake:

I would say that she is pretty baity, but the fabric looks intact. You would need to take her apart to rehair her, so why not get the pattern? I think everyone here would stuff their pony rooms full of plushies if we had the pattern :D I know I would (and I am certainly stalking this thread for it)! I don't think anyone else has posted the pattern for the original plushies. And a custom plushie would be awesome!

You don't have to fully disassemble her to insert new hair but you certainly could take her apart, pattern her, then put her back together for practice.  :)

If you do decide to pull her apart, remember to take photos at each step and pin a note on each part to help identify what bits you have!  this is something that I used to do back in the day when I pulled laptops apart + rebuilt them with new parts

Haha I'm quite used to dis- and reassemble hardware but I guess it would be useful as a tutorial for others
I'll try if I can fit the project in this weekend

Disassemble, pattern, replace hair, reassemble. I'm interested in the pattern as well, or if anyone has any patterns for other 80s plushies.

There are vintage Butterick G1 My Little Pony patterns which, as far as I know, are a match for the officially produced G1 plushies.

no it's really not the same and I do understand why - the original pattern would be to complicated for a child. The butterick patterns are quite simple but the ponys turn out a bit "flat"

Are you thinking of the felt ornaments?  Because the 4 big patterns should turn into a full-scale plushie.

Here's an archived thread able pony patterns. I can't find any examples of ponies made from any certain patterns, though.

I don't have any of the Butterick patterns cut out and I'd hate to cut the ones I do have.  If anyone has them cut out and can scan them I'd be happy to make a plush to test it.  For science!

I have used the Butterick pattern in the past and it doesn't look same as the commercial ones. It was a bit bigger and more simplified, especially the head looked different. For example it didn't have a separate mid piece for the head.
