Replacement irises for BBE Baby Ponies?
« on: January 09, 2018, 08:58:56 PM »
So, I bought a Baby Sundance in need of TLC off of eBay. And part of the TLC she needs, well... Her right iris is missing.
What would be a good source for a replacement?

I have one like that as well, and would love to know if there are tiny iris eye chips xD
I was going to experiment with making my own. if I can manage that, I'll post how I do it. :)

I wonder if you could draw out the iris/pupil on paper, then place a tiny bubble of either triple thick/mod podge or even resin on top of it? To kind of give it that same glassy look?
I've never got into changing out eye in my dolls, so I'm no good for resources on where to buy ANY of tthose sorts of things, much less that small.
Whatever you end up doing, be sure to share pics when it's done please!

People in the furby community trace the eye chip shape out onto paper, color the paper as desired, and then dome it with hot glue. Be sure to use clear hot glue, of course. You might be able to find teeny tiny domed cabochons though, I'm not sure of a bbe's eye chip measurement.

I don't know what size their eyes are exactly but you may be able to find replacements somewhere like the BJD hobby. Some dolls are very very tiny but still have inset eyes.

I have no idea but I'd love to see what you end up going with XD I don't think I've ever seen a BBE with replaced eyes. Poor little one-eyed baby.

Do they make cabochons that tiny?  That'd be my first choice - small glass domes for jewelry making.  Then paint or print the coloured part on the back.  Hot melt glue tends to go foggy and yellow over time, so I'd be leery about picking it as a permanent restoration material.  There are also some types of glue specifically made for 'vitrifying' / doing a 3D glass look, so those might be an option as well.

Well, hot glue is something I have on hand, so..
I'm considering making an eyepatch for her in the meantime
