Reasons for this integral yellowing ?
« on: December 24, 2017, 02:30:45 AM »
Hello everyone,
My parents brought a second Twinkle Twirl, I was happy since I deteriorated my first and only one for a custom (Never done, and it was 4 years ago... Mistakes were made. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I still regret to have erased her hoof heart design though)

But I was intrigued by how yellowed she looks. She is just plain orange at that point. I washed her but nothing went away, still as orange as a carrot. Then I started to speculate, she smelled a bit weird. The reason for his coloration might be cigarette exposure. But man it's some strong coloring. Even her hair got orange'd. The only intact thing on her is her markings / paint : Eyes, symbol and hoof design.

I'd like to know your opinion about that. What do you think have happened to her ? Do you think she is a custom-friendly bait now ? Thanks for your replies ! I might want to keep her as she is. She's unique, in a way. lol.

Rose

It's odd that it's affected the hair as well, so cigarette exposure could be a right.  Generally soft pony plastic does yellow, there are various theories for this and it's generally considered to be plastic breakdown of some kind.  However the hair doesn't normally discolour like this as far as I know.

Looks like she was one of the low quality ones that had something wrong with the material mix? Just guessing.
I can't explain the hair.

I think she looks good that way, btw! Better than the original. She looks evenly yellowed. Please keep her that way

I'm voting for cigarette exposure. I've seen other ponies yellowed by it along with their hair before. Don't know how to get rid of the yellowing, but you can use baking soda for the smell if you don't like it :)

Hmm, my Twinkle Twirl from childhood is about halfway between the two so part of it is probably just luck of the draw age-related yellowing, but the hair makes me agree with the suggestion of cigarette exposure as well?

I don't know what happened to her, but I think she's a lovely color.   I like it better than the original.

Well, everyone, thanks for your replies, this is nice. ^^ Well, I will keep her as she is for sure. She looks nice. Indeed her smell is not that great though, but we have to stick our nose to her to get the scent. I might dip her in baking soda one day.
Have a nice day. =)

Sometimes sunlight can yellow them, but that doesn't explain the hair... it usually fades to white. One thing I've seen do that is rust, but I doubt that's the case here. Sometimes hair products can do that, maybe something was left in or on it and it stained? Or maybe she's just weird. Cool though!
