... but the fire is so delightful...
« on: December 13, 2017, 03:18:23 PM »
:fireplace: :fireplace: :fireplace:

The Stomper clan uses their furnace and thermostat to keep warm. At least during the day. At night, a metric ton (well, almost) of blankets on our beds. Mr. Stomper and I even have a mattress warmer when the chill is too much.

That said, I'm hypothyroid, so I'm cold 80% of the year. :snow: :cold: :brr:

I wear sock/slippers and a sweater in addition to my usual layers, pretty much all the time. It's not often that my feet are bare. :socks:

How do you keep warm?  :toasty: :campfire:

I live in California, so it's just about freezing point in the morning and at night. We just have our thermostat set to our normal temperature :) It has snowed once in the last twenty years.

It doesn't get cold here very many days of the year.  When it does, it's not quite freezing.  So it's space heaters and extra blankets for us.  I do get bored by the constantly grey skies though.

It has to stay cold outside for a pretty significant amount of time before it gets chilly in my apartment, and let me just say that doesn't happen much where I live.

Like we had a short-lived 'cold' spell mid-last week. I only turned my heater on a couple of times and I didn't leave it on for more than a few minutes.

I only turn on the heater for my dog. Otherwise I wouldn't turn it on at all.

I'd have to pick different answers, and hubby and I have different temperatures. He likes it cooler, I'd like the heat to be up higher....so I end up in layers, and have a space heater for night.

We currently have a hot air furnace, I miss having a wood stove, but blankets will do as well.

Right now we have a furnace, but we also have a pellet stove, plus a wood stove in case of REAL emergency.
I usually keep the house in the low to mid 60's, and wear sweatshirts. Right now, I'm wearing a stocking cap. It's a really comfy one, though.
What a fun question!

I usually have a space heater on if I can. Plus I dress in layers. I dress in layers even if it's hot in the summer, though. Some people think I'm weird but I have thin blood because I'm on blood thinners and it makes me cold all the time. Plus, I'm on the thinner side. I've had people tell me I should eat and that'll cure me. Sorry but my IBS has something to say about that. Not sure if it's caused from my multiple meds that I have to take because of my blood disease but it's annoying.

I do the same thing stomper. Blanket at night and furnace for the day. Sometimes we use the fireplace, but our small dogs manage to soak up all the heat. The cat used to roast himself in front of it. His whiskers on one side would start to curl and he’d just roll over and bake the other side!

My husband likes it cold, I like it hot!

I often pop over to my parents (along with a couple of bags of logs) and take advantage of their fireplace!

It's been very chilly here in the UK this week and their log fire has been lovely to sit next to. It would be so nice to have a proper fireplace of our own one day, hopefully I can find one when I go house-hunting in the spring!

Other than that, it's heaps of fluffy blankets and duvets at night! My bed is a nest of warmth! My husband still has to poke his feet out to stay cool, though!

I live in Minnesota, so once the temperature drops below 30, I take out my heated throws and they stay in my chair until March.

I went with "blankets" for the poll since I live under my heated blanket all winter but its a combination of most, honestly!

Of course we crank up the heat because its so cold up here in Idaho. Our bathroom has a space heater to keep it comfortable, although it can still be pretty cold if you're taking a shower. The windows/doors of our apartment are very poorly sealed so they've all got blankets, old jeans, etc shoved against the bottoms. I also decided to try using thumb tacks to attach the curtains to the walls in our bedroom and on the sliding glass door. That thing takes up half our largest wall and lets in so much cold. It drives me nuts.

We'll be moving in a couple months and I can't wait to hopefully take advantage of a fireplace for the rest of the winter.

My parents have a wooden stove which has a water tank on top, linked to the central heating system, so it heats all the house by itself, this is so fun.  When it's not lit, we go back to our normal heating system. ^^

It tends to get really cold where I live during this time of the year but honestly I like it that way. I'm on meds that tend to make me feel hot so I rather enjoy the cold and usually just turn the thermostat off (its honestly 47F in my house currently). I do have a heater that works very well but if I do get cold I prefer just layering.
