Customs Question (Specifically Sweden)
« on: December 11, 2017, 08:44:03 AM »
One quick question about Customs, specifically Sweden.

Someone recently asked me to put 'low value' on the customs form.  Are they asking me to lower the price or literally write 'low value' on the form.  The item is only $14.99 and I don't change anything on eBay forms since they print out automatically, but I'm just trying to understand.  Thanks!

Pretty sure they meant that they want you to write a lower price than $14.99 on the customs form since customs charges are based on what value is written there for the item.

What Teddy says. I think customs are like the Norwegian that you have to pay toll of 1/3 of the price. I haven't had that on two packages with ponies yet.

What Teddy and Strawberrysweets said - but please note that it is illegal to lie about the value of an item in the customs form. Marking a low value is fine if it's a handmade item; otherwise you should always write down the actual price paid, whether it's a gift or a sale. It's the buyer's responsibility to follow the custom regulations of their country and pay the duties.

Thanks everyone for your answers!  I could have worked with her if it were a purchase outside of eBay, and I thought she was asking me to mark a lower price on the item, but wasn't sure.  Living in the US I don't have to worry about customs/duty fees so I don't know all the specifics.  I definitely need to educate myself more in that area.
