Pinkie Pie's been replaced?

I'm used to seeing Twilight Sparkle, RD, and Pinkie being the three "spokesponies" for MLP, when it comes to merchandise. I usually see them on T-shirts, backpacks, journals, etc. when the designer only uses three ponies. This was true back when Twilight was a unicorn, and still true when she became an alicorn.

But today when I went Christmas shopping, it seems like Pinkie has been replaced with... Fluttershy? o.0

I saw T-shirts, a ceramic lamp, Christmas wrapping paper, journal covers, and other small toys in the $1 bin... all of them had Twilight Sparkle, RD, and Fluttershy! How odd! All these items had the movie vectors, so I guess this is a recent change with movie-specific merch. (Which is ironic since Fluttershy barely did anything in the movie and Pinkie had a much more central role...)

I dunno what this change is about, but I find it very interesting.


(Random additional trivia: I also found a role of wrapping paper that had some of the Mane 6 but also included G4 Minty on it! Wow! It was the vector from her blind bag trading card. I guess they were desperate for a green pony to add to the normal color scheme of the Mane Six, which is severely lacking in green...)

I saw some T-shirts and wrapping paper at Walmart, but most of it I saw at Target. Check those $1-5 bins/shelves they usually have at the front of the store. It's all the movie art, but they had small blank journals and bouncy balls and a deck of playing cards and lots of little random stuff like that. The lamp was in the bedding section at Target, it was a full ceramic Rainbow Dash in a sitting pose and the lampshade had RD, Twilight, and Fluttershy.

Oh and the wrapping paper with G4 Minty was at Target in the kids aisles.


PS: I love Rarity and I'm sad she and AJ never get to be on merch! D:<

Then again a couple weeks ago when I was picking up some reboot g4s to customize, there was a tub full of only rarity, Twi, AJ and Fluttershy (shame, because I needed a Pinkie), and there werent many pinkies on the shelves either. :S Might have been a coincidence, however.

Thanks! I already got the wrapping paper from Walmart, but I'll definitely be on the lookout for the cheap Target stuff!

I've actually seen that grouping a few times since Twilight because an alicorn. I think it's because they are all winged ponies and Fluttershy is pink haired so she satisfies the need for pink.

Good point. I remember seeing something with all the winged ponies and the phrase on it had...something to do with wings.
Pinkie's switching is not for color scheme at least, because (at least in my opinion) any three of them seem to work well together. I do wish more Applejack merch would come out of it, though.

Mexico IS getting a cereal with her on it. It's Walmart brand, although no word on if it will be in other countries.

Our department store, Big W, has tote bags with RD, Pinkie and Fluttershy - no Twilight! It definitely is a case of the mane 4 here, although the stamping set that came out a few months ago has 5 stamps and leaves out AJ. The sticker sheets I bought was 6 sheets, all the ponies had their own pages, until AJ, who had to share with the other Princesses, Spike and Shining Armor. It's sad how they leave AJ out on merch.
