Best defrizzing hair method?? Help!
« on: November 29, 2017, 03:16:19 PM »
I have been seeing a lot of tutorials recently about defrizzing your ponies hair, and so far I have come across 3 methods, one is straighting iron, 2 is curling iron and 3 is boiling water. I attempted the 1st method on a mattel little pretty kitty and I think my iron was to hot, as the strand burnt right off! Thankfully it was a small piece, I assumed little pretties hair is the same as a ponies..am I wrong about this? What do you all do to save your ponies hair, and your opinons on these method? Thanks everypony  :lovey:

Some people use wig conditioner, as it is meant for synthetic hair. An iron that is to hot will melt pony hair, since it's plastic. Boiling water works ok. I've only ever used boiling water as I don't have an iron or the conditioner.

with the flat iron, low setting.  I specifically bought an flat iron for the ponies that has a setting as low as 120 degrees fahrenheit.  Ponies hair should be wet plus conditioner to protect from the heat.  Small hanks work best.  I have also discovered a new favorite comb; lice removal combs with their steel blades and narrow slots.  Another thing I like to do to help shape the tail is wrap it in a paper towel.  Take a 1 inch strip and wrap around and around from the base to the tip.  Good luck

I believe Little Pretty hair is Saran, like a lot of Barbie hair.  I think Saran is less heat-resistant than the nylon used for MLP.  The iron has to be on a really low setting, too, and you don't want to leave the hair in contact very long.  Using boiling water may be safer for your Little Pretty.

Thanks for the response every pony! Looking at the pony vs the pretty kitty, the prettys hair does look different ...I did see something about wig conditioners for build a bear plush hair but didnt thinki about it for actual pony hair, so thanks for the suggestion! I think I am going to try the boiling method as I am kind of scared of the iron now! That way I dont have to buy another iron right now! What is the best way to wrap the hair?? Thanks again!! :)

You also have information about pony hair in this topic :
http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,385815.0.html

<<Nylon hair (Nylon 6), is commonly found in My Little Ponies and various other toys. It has a melting temperature of 410-428 Fahrenheit (210-220 Celsius)[...]>>

Hope that helps. Have a nice day !

I use kind of the same method RoseNoire posted! Lots of conditioner, flat iron. I do smaller sections, however, and put the pony in a towel and hold her between my knees, so I have both hands free and she doesnt flop about in the sink. I like to drag the iron through a little bit faster, too, especially when the iron clamped down on the hair and was held there, it made me really nervous xD Though I suppose that iron had a really low setting :) I've accidentally burned hair off clamping it on the hair for too long, or melted hair together *___* (then again, I think my iron doesn't go as low as many others)

I never had any luck with the boiling water method.  I use the flat iron method much like the tutorial RoseNoire posted.  Here are a couple of ponies showing my results:
