Ok, so I took some pictures. It was already a bit shady outside, but I still think I captured the colors pretty well.

This is Sunstone.

Body color comparison between Sunstone and Sunbeam. As you can see Sunbeam's body appears a lot "greener" to me then that of Sunstone's. So I'm not sure.

So...what do you guys think? Is she genuine or a Frankenstein incarnation between Moonstone and Sunbeam?

If it were me, I'd be returning her.  Personally, I don't believe that the head-body mismatches are 'genuine.'

But . . . even if some of them are genuine . . . that brown glue around the neck of this one . . . :/  That does not look like factory glue to me.  And the pocking in the 5th picture down (close up of her neck rim) looks like its from her neck seal originally being broken.

The original washer being in place means nothing since you can thread a pony's tail from the inside out (pull the loose end through the hole in the butt).

Sadly there is no such thing as returning anything on Marktplaats. Bought is bought. You buy something in good trust. Hoping you will get what you paid for or even anything at all really. Marktplaats is not Ebay. You pay a person through Ideal or bank transfer and then you give your adress and the person sends the item (or not). There is an option to pay with Paypal. But then the seller needs to have set it up. It's not like Ebay where Paypal is a must.

Thank for your imput LadyMoondancer. I'd like to hear some more opinions on this. Possibly from people who own her.

Also. I did get a message back from the seller yesterday.

But first I want to discribe what went on before and after the sale.

Before the sale I bid in a private message (which is something you can do on Marktplaats). I started low I gave her a bid of 20 euro. She then replied that she will not sell her for that low because this is a special version of Sunbeam and that she was planning on making seperate auctions for all her ponies instead of the lot. I then asked her if she would be ok with 40. She then replied "50 incl shipping". Which I agreed on.

A few hours later (I had already paid by then) I was browsing through a few of her other auctions. (She had already started seperate auctions for some of her ponies the lot auction was also still up. (Maybe she was going to delete that later?) I saw that she had an Italian Starshine. I still need that one so I messaged her what price she has in mind for Starshine. She then wrote "Someone had just bid 20 euro in private message? I actually don't know much about pony value". At that point I started to get suspicious. Cause I know for a fact that Italy ponies NEVER sell for that much on Marktplaats. Especially not the regular ones such as Skydancer, Starshine, Bowtie and all the lesser rare ones. Italy ponies are not rare in the Netherlands at all. So I replied to her back, saying that I found it odd that someone bid 20 euro on Starshine. Since she is not rare at all and there were several auctions with lots up on Marktplaats with Starshine's in them. She then said "Oh yeah it could also be that the person meant yours". I did not bother with buying more from her after that.

So when the pony arrived yesterday I wrote this to her:

First I sent her a message that I felt fooled. Because the head/body missmatch and the glue which was clearly a red flag. I told her that it looks like this is a combined version of Moonstone and Sunbeam. I even told her that if that is the case I would like to know and rather have her be honest.

She replied with that she did not fool me. And that she did her best to pack her good and sent her asap. That she was feeling down by my reaction. She even wrote "As if I would take apart a pony" (with a smiling monkey, covering his eyes emoticon).

I replied to her that there are indeed people who do that. And that I also found it odd that she didn't know the value of Starshine but somehow knew the value of a rare hybrid? A non collector would never know such a thing imo. I did apologize for my perhaps crude message incase she was indeed honest. She then replied back again saying that she got informed by someone in private message about the value of Sunstone. So that is how she knew apperently...Also that she felt sorry that I was dissapointed but that she still hopes I can be happy with her in my collection...

Yeah...totally...

I feel so bummed out now... :pout:

As you've paid more than you probably would have if it is a fakie, the seller probably did know (or believed) that it was Sunstone. Is it a collector as well?

Sorry, didn't see you're edit on your post. Who was the seller?

@Nella. I actually just sent her a message asking if she is a collector or if the ponies are from her childhood. Can you do me a favor and upload a picture of your Sunstone? Just so I can have a look at it?

Post Merge: November 26, 2017, 10:02:34 AM

Oh she is super fast with responding. She just messaged me back that these are her childhood ponies but her own daughter didn't like them. Cause she prefered G4 because of the cartoons that are on tv. So... I don't know really.

@Nella The seller's name on MP is: "n.b."

I think I kind of started the questions on the authenticity of Sunstone with this thread. ;)

Regarding you're Sunstone, I just don't believe it to be her childhood one, I'm sorry. The head has definitely come off at some time and besides collectors I really can't see why kids would do that (and if they did, why the same head will be placed back...).

Thanks Nella. Your Sunstone seems to have an even worse head/body mismatch. But the neckseam on yours is intact? I almost feel like opening mine up. But then again. If she is genuine I would ruin her neckseam. The rest is glued tight shut. It's just the right side that is sort if open. Should I boil her and see if the glue loosens?

It wouldn't hurt to open yours as the seam is already opened. The only thing is.... what would that give you? The tailwasher will probably be there (easy to place the tail back with washer). You can just try to remove this glue so that it looks better.

Boiling her wouldn't do any damage to the hair, right? I mean the manes that if it is boiled will the mane glue come off and will her hair fall out? Or do Italy ponies not use any glue in their manes?

And...what if this is the real one but the head has come off and someone just failed at glueing it properly? Not to be annoying, but what in the pictures I posted shows that it's deffinitly a fake? Purely the fact that the neck seam seems to have glued horribly?

I don't know... that's why I started my thread back than ;). Mine had a different color green. How is that stroke of hair on yours?

Glue on hair? I've never heard of that. Which G1's have that? Boiling shouldn't be a problem, although I boil water and put the pony in it, not other way around (not really boiling the pony itself).

Different color green? I haven't looked into that. You mean darker or lighter?

I know that some ponies have glue over the stitched part of their manes. My childhood Salty had that. Amd sopme others I owned that were beheaded.

Yes, it's in my thread. I thought Sunstone's is darker than Moonstone's.

My Sunstone also has the mismatched body/head.  I bought her from a reputable collector but did have a panic attack when this came out again recently.  I didn't pay top dollar for her, thank goodness because her price has seemed to drop dramatically, but still paid enough.  Anyway, I compared her head to my Italian Moonstones, and they were not the same shade of blue which brought some relief.

I was just looking at a picture of mine, we should swap heads.  My pony's head is too dark for her body

This was mine.  She was one of the first ones 'found.'  I actually traded for her expecting her to be Italian Moonstone.  (This was before everyone had digital cameras so people just described ponies, and she was described as "blue Italian pony with rainbow hair."

I eventually sold her so I don't have her anymore.

Oh wow yours looks pretty. Her head and body are the exact same color. After seeing several other ones from members as well as on google and on Ebay. I can say that my head/body mismatch is not that bad. It's just the glue that bothers me and makes me wonder. I might boil er and see if the glue comes loose. But if I find out her plastic is still stuck together, then I will not twist and pry to get it off. Cause if that is that case, she could be a real one.

Post Merge: November 27, 2017, 01:48:47 AM

Ok...so I boiled her. I held her down with her head in a pot with boiling water for severalminutes straight. But I can't get her head off. The glue is not giving way and it looks like parts of her neck are indeed still fused together as in plastic melted together. I am affraid to start tearing it. I'm starting to think it might be a genuine one.

Post Merge: November 27, 2017, 02:14:22 AM

Here are some photos of the neck again. She was boiled so she was more flexible. This is what I discovered:

The plastic of the neck seam seems to still be fused together. So I start to feel as if she's genuine. Maybe I should use some of my own glue to fix that gap up and make her pretty again.

But what do you guys think afer seeing this?
