Collection Evolution (lots of pics)
« on: November 21, 2017, 01:51:14 PM »
I thought it might be fun to share how my collection has changed over the years.
I started collecting G4 in 2011. I can't believe it's been over 6 years!

This is the start of it all. The mane 6 + a couple coloring books.

Here's almost when my collection was the largest and taking the most space. Not long after this time I started selling a few things and trying to focus more. I've kept lists and counts of who I had and I don't quite remember how many figures I had at most but I feel like it was somewhere just over 300.

I no longer had a spare room at this point. So, down to brushables and bbs only. I really did not like this new setup and put them into storage for a while after this. I even considered stopping collecting.

I missed them too much though and put the brushables out on display again. Sold the BBs, eventually.

Here is my collection now. 80 ponies + Spike.
Kinda funny how I've rounded back to having brushables only, like how I started in the very beginning. I've been considering whether to get any of the reboot ponies besides Big Mac or not. This may be a completion point unless I see Songbird in person and can't pass her up (very possible). Then, of course, I'd need Thunderlane and Miss Coco Pommel.   :P
I hope you enjoyed seeing my collecting journey  :good:

If anyone else has documented their collection in photos over the years I'd love to see how you collection has grown and changed, too. ^.^

Lovely collection! I don't collect G4 and only know the ones I scope out at Wal-Mart. It's great to see a whole bunch of different ones in one space - I can appreciate the different designs a lot more :)

Also, is that a G4 Minty? That's a G4 I could get behind!!

I loved seeing your pictures! I sure wish that I had pictures from when I first found the site and started to collect in 2006. But I did not save any of them! :(

Interesting to see the progression of your collection. A shame it had to shrink.

@ScreamingDaisies Thanks! That is indeed Minty. She's the pride and joy of my collection, the prototype version.

@achab1984 Thank you! I wish I could see your collection changing too. Funny that I have deleted so many photos including other collections I have downsized or sold but always kept these collection pics for the most part.

@Honycomb  I always tried to make a point of having all the figures visible :)

@ZeldaTheSwordsman Though I occasionally miss a few of the FS or Funko ones, overall I'm much happier with my collection being smaller. I get overwhelmed by large collections pretty easily and look back in awe that I ever let it get as large as it did. I do wonder if, when I have more space again, it'll expand again.

Oh wow that's gorgeous! Minty is one of my favorite G4's. It's really neat to see that you have the prototype version.

That's a really cool collection evolution! I also really wanted to ask if Big Mac blends with the rest of your collection? Shining armor looks so different to the rest of the ponies anyway, so does Big Mac look okay with him and the rest of your ponies? I'm tempted by the re-boot boys, but I don't want them to stand out too much, as I'm definitely not going to go through and buy all the characters again, so they'd be displayed with my G4s.

I'd say Big Mac blends decently. The main thing that makes Big Mac and Shining Armor (and that's the original Shiny, the troll doll hair is a dead giveaway) look so different is that much like the larger Princesses they have proper muzzles, but then that reflects the show.
The other thing is bad hair - and Big Mac's overly short nylon mane is even worse than Shining's troll-doll hair IMO. That at least can be styled somewhat.
Be warned that the All About series ponies are prone to having their eyes printed too low and sometimes too far out to the sides and Big Mac's muzzle makes it stand out all the more.
should be perma-moderated
