Questions about ribbons, Hollywood's hair, and rubbing alcohol
« on: November 17, 2017, 04:01:02 AM »
First thing's first. My G1 toys are all secondhand loose, and the only one to still have ribbons was Molly and I believe her hair ribbons are a different length than the standard tail ribbon. So, I would like to know for sure how long the standard tail ribbons are so that I can cut proper-length replacements.

Second, my Hollywood had her mane cut severely short. I would like opinions on which Dollyhair color would be the best match (I was thinking Moonlight but I would like to hear what others think).

Third, I was wondering if it was safe to use rubbing alcohol on ponies to remove things like ink marks. I know from reading the horror stories that acne removal products are a bad idea on pony plastic, but I was wondering if rubbing alcohol (which is a simple solvent that evaporates quickly) might be safe.

1. Ribbon lengths vary, but 22-23cm is average according to the MLP wiki.

2. Hollywood has the standard white hair, so whatever Dollyhair colour matches most white haired ponies should work.

3. Alcohol won't remove ink marks, but it can take off symbol, eye paint, and iridescence (think Princess Pony and Twinkle-eye jewels).  For ink, sunfading is about the only way to get rid of it semi-safely.

That one says Virgin Snow for Hollywood. Hm.

Odd that rubbing alcohol won't remove ink marks. I guess it's because they're soaked into the PVC?

Mostly yes.  There's some chemistry involved, but the simplest answer is yes. :)

Good to know. I was just wondering since rubbing alcohol is generally good for getting ink off of surfaces.

And thank you Skeen for confirming that Virgin Snow is the right color for Hollywood, because the poor girl very definitely needs rehairing. Just look (old pic but hair is sadly unchanged):

I do have Molly's ribbons photographed but I haven't measured them - they are different.

Ouch, looks like someone took a bite out of Hollywood's leg.   Poor girl.

Indeed.. But I still love her and don't mind having gotten her in this condition, considering
