The many terms and abbreviations of the Arena [1 so far]
« on: November 15, 2017, 01:50:40 AM »
Hi everyone !

I'm fairly new to this community and not very experimented. So, by reading all your abbreviations and not getting them, I had the idea to make a topic explaining all of them for everyone. In order to do that, I need your contribution and your expertise. I'll edit this topic to add them. =)

So, here's...

The list

There’s a list of them under the arena tutorial tab. 😊

I'd likely agree except I think FiM uses this too so there is a lot of fans outside of the arena who likely do so as well XD
My DeviantArt, why not drop by and take a look!

It's not, it's a FIM term. The Arena is for all generation fans, and most older generation fans don't use FIM terminology so this isn't an Arena term, it's an FIM one.

Speaking of FIM terms, EQG is missing from the Arena list (Equestria Girls).

I do like some of the G4 Ponies though (The new Sea Ponies YAY!!!)... :lovey:

But really.... I can't  stand those high pitched voices and *over the top* cartoons they make today....Not only the MLP but every cartoon these days.....I already have ADD...5 minutes Cartoon Network and I need more Ritalin!!! ;-)
I'm an old grumpy thing from 1978....I'm all about the G1 cartoons!!!  :relaxed: :relaxed:

I like everypony, I just wish people (bronies, most likely) would realise it's supposed to be an alternative for everyone/everybody and not a replacement for them.  Meaning that it's not a mistake if a G4 pony doesn't say it, and (for hater-bronies) it is not proof of pre-G4's inferiority if a pre-G4 pony doesn't say it (these are only the really bad hater-bronies who actively look for things to hate about pre-G4 rather than actually not liking it for opinion reasons).
I will confess to being a brony, but I assure you that the things you may not like about them do not apply to me, I mostly keep the fandom name due to nostaligia, but I do genuinely love MLP as a whole, not just FIM, and not just the popularity of FIM - I genuinely love the show (and all the others)

Agreed. I find it silly and when people use it I find it hard to take them seriously :/ but its not as offensive to me as brony, pegasister or cutie mark when applied to G1 collecting. So I dislike it but I can tolerate it, I just twitch when I see it. Whereas anyone talking about G1 symbols as cutie marks is a whole other rage-event in my little geekish brain. ;)

I guess it all just depends on how we perceive each term, and if it means something to us.  Like I say, I like "everypony" as long as people aren't so pedantic about it (with what I mentioned earlier) - I only say it to describe ponies though, not the fans, but am okay with those who do, and I love the term cutie mark, as some of you already know, and have a nostalgic attachment to it, as well as the term brony.

However, at the same time, I realise that a lot of you may have nostalgic attachments to the terms that mean something to you in someway, such as symbol instead of cutie mark.  I try to respect that as best I can, and will usually use "symbol" for G1 ponies, unless I am specifically writing something were G3 or G4 terminologies apply (e.g. my fanseries is set in Equestria, so even the G1 ponies have cutie marks there, but I try to remember to use symbol everywhere else).

So yeah, I think how each term sounds depends on how much it means to you, it doesn't even have to be a nostalgia thing (although it is to me, for the most part), but simply if it means something to you or whatever.  I am sure a lot of you have more sentimental or nostalgic attachments to G1 as that's where a lot of you started, but even those who didn't could have nostalgia or sentiment for the terms, and I totally understand that, as I am nostalgic for the G4 terms I mentioned, like I said.
I will confess to being a brony, but I assure you that the things you may not like about them do not apply to me, I mostly keep the fandom name due to nostaligia, but I do genuinely love MLP as a whole, not just FIM, and not just the popularity of FIM - I genuinely love the show (and all the others)
