I voted that it's not important, and it really isn't BUT, I've been told that black cats are the least likely to be adopted or rescued based on incredibly silly things like superstition. I think if I foster or decide to get another cat, (I've got a ginger who I love more than life), I'll probably gravitate towards a black cat. :)

We have 2 cats and neither was chosen based on coat colour. One was given to me by someone who could not afford to keep her when her cat had kittens - she was one of the kittens. She is nearing 20 now and is a tabby. The other is pitch black and I chose her because the lady at the shelter shut her (the kitten's) head in the door when I went to look at the kittens. And she jumps up to put her head in your hand to be stroked. She is now 12. They are both awesome cats. Love them to pieces.

Normally coat wouldn't matter, but like fizzerknight we tend to adopt black cats because a) they tend to have cute personalities and b) to give them a loving home. ^_^

I also avoid cats with white skin around their eyes due to the increased risk of eye cancer. Such cats are usually more suited to an indoor life, and we already have one indoor cat. We don't need any more, lol.

Our current cats are ages 12, 14 and 16...  grey Tuxido and a red swirl.

But as the song goes- "I love every kind of cat!"

We figure we will probably get black cats next though. (Unless cats fall into our care some other way sooner). We learned that black cats get adopted less from the shelter- they even have black cat "sales" poor guys-

It kinda cracks me up and makes me sad when the animal shelter has a "buy one get one free" cat sale...

I wish I could adopt all of them!
